Which tablet for me?

Ok so I have done a search here on this site and it seems that everyone has recommended the Asus transformer prime. With the new Asus TF300T out, is that still the case?

It seems to have all the same specs with a little smaller battery.

I can find the Prime for around $550 used on ebay to get to Canada but I can get the TF300T for $399. Should I still be looking at the Prime?

Also are there any new tablets coming out soon that will have a better display for a similar price?

Thanks for any quick help, I'm itching to place an order. :D

Between the 2 and taking price and specs into consideration I really like the TF300. I am planning on picking one up this summer. There are very few differences between them (I think the camera which I never use on a tablet was the primary hardware difference) and the casing is different.

I just bought the TF300 in the US and brought it back here (UK). It's great and does everything I want. The battery is better than the one on my Android phone (Galaxy S2) and have had no issues with the country-to-country and my wifi works fine with it. I did order a new UK charger for it, but probably didn't have to. The only problem I've had is finding a screen protector -- the plastic film that protects against scratches and dust. They are apparently unavailable in the UK yet and I found them scarce even in the US. The manufacturers haven't quite caught up with it yet.

All in all, I highly recommend the Transformer TF300 and most of the reviews are also very positive.

Thanks EvoJake,

Great video indeed. I'm pretty sure i'm sold on the tf300. To bad I still have to wait for it in Canada. Everywhere I look said it's still for pre order.

I have the Prime. It has a slightly better screen and flash for the rear camera. But the metal casing causes problems for gps and wifi. The tf300t is a great deal and gives you ICS and the same processor.

Thanks dreadnatty08,

I think I'm sold on the tf300t. I understand the quad core processor in this one and the Prime is quite good. Is there another breakthrough tablet set to be released in the near future that will be worth the wait?

Keep cost and features into consideration.

So far, nothing has been announced. It's possible Intel is cooking something up since they're putting out Celeron type SoC's for phones.
I've had a couple other tablets in the past, and ICS has really made a huge step forward for Android. Honeycomb on our Galaxy Tab 10.1 was just so buggy, but the Prime is a dream and nearly a laptop/netbook replacement.
It's definitely worth it to throw down for the keyboard dock too. :)

How dare you guys tell him to buy anything but an iPad! It's the only good tablet there is. Nothing else comes close.

:p joking aside.

The tf300t is a great choice, (if I wasn't saving up to buy an unlocked S3, I would def get this) as the Transormer is really the top dog Android tablet. And a 2ghz, quadcore processor, with 1gb of RAM and the same type of screen as the Prime sure would make this one heck of a tablet! easily trump the ipad3.
Rumor has it though, that Google may come out with Its own 'Nexus' type tablet this summer. But only Google knows for sure. I hope they do. My next tablet will either be a google (assuming they make one) or asus, once my jailbroken ipad2 is retired.

Thanks dreadnatty08 and Covart,

Funny story, I owned a Ipad 1 (I have to mention 1 because the 3 is also called Ipad.) Sold it. My wife has a Ipad 3 and loves it. I also have an Iphone 4. I just hate being stuck with whatever Apple gives you. I recently had a Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 but saw the deal on the TF300t and I was able to sell the Samsung without losing any money. I love the customization of the Androids that's why my next phone will be an Android as well.

I know something newer and better will always come out but I just hate buying something new that is beaten by a better deal a short time after.

I am going to spring for the keyboard with it. I have a pretty nice laptop but the tab will be way nicer for sitting on the couch or laying in bed.

Trust me, we had the 10.1 and the form factor and screen were both beautiful but the interface and OS (HC) were abysmal. Asus is now known for actively upgrading quickly and ICS is leaps and bounds above Honeycomb.
You won't be disappointed.

Get the TF dear.

I would never use my tablet for taking pictures so I couldn't care less about a flash. Honestly I wish they left the rear camera off to cut cost a little more. The casing is nice from what I have seen, and if it helps improve wifi, even better (don't see myself using GPS on a tablet right now)

I'm definitely getting the keyboard dock. I really enjoyed using the keyboard dock on the transformer when I worked at BestBuy (we had one for department use in the mobile department), plus the extra battery life is awesome!

I have the iPad 2. When I bought it, it really was the best available tablet. Just like when I had the iPhone and iPhone 3GS it was the best smartphone available. Android has now surpassed Apple in yet another area though. I can't wait to ditch the iPad and upgrade to the TF300.

The only downside is I won't be able to root it because I use my tablet for media and I want to be able to rent and buy TV shows and movies from the market. I really hope that changes soon, because I would love to be able to rent content from my rooted tablet (like I do with my jailbroken iPad)

I have the 8.9 Tab and there I times I want to throw it across the room, all because of Honeycomb. Worst damn OS ever made! Worse than Microsoft Vista! I am praying that the official ICS version is released this month for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, cause lord knows, we have suffered long enogh with Honeycomb!

I would throw our 10.1 across the room but it wouldn't matter since the screen is already destroyed anyway :o.
Seriously, why hasn't Samsung updated any of their tablets (outside of the newest) to ICS? Very frustrating to be a Samsung owner I'm sure. Asus does a great job at keeping their tablets up to date (and skin free!).

Sorry, I would never buy one of these Chinese branded tablets that appear to use left over parts from other tablets. I don't know if that is the case, it just looks like it to me.
Additionally, i wouldn't want to have to ship my tablet back to China to get it fixed if something happened. I think I also read this doesn't support the Google Play market?

And for $379... Ahh, no thanks.

Thanks everyone and sorry for the slow response, I didn't get an email indicating there were anymore responses.

It looks like one of my favorite audio video stores in Canada just got the TF300t in stock today. I ordered it with the dock. Now I have to play the waiting game.

I still cant believe the price for this thing. I know the screen isn't as good as the Ipad 3 but it seems just as good everywhere else. Best of all it doesn't run IOS. :D

Is there a need for a screen protector with the new gorilla glass?

Sweet! I'd personally like to hear your impressions after you get it. You really have a beast of a tablet coming!

As for screen protectors, i always get the non-glare and anti-fingerprint quality screen protectors (not the cheap ebay kind). Not having to wipe the screen every hour is worth the investment, imo.

Thanks Covart, I'll be sure to post a review once I get it.

Any screen protectors that you recommend? I normally get the invisible shields for all my stuff but the only place it's available is on the Zag site and they want $25 just for shipping to Canada.
