Thinking about buying a Tablet..( sorry if posted in wrong section...??)

Got it narrowed down to 2

Acer a500

or

Asus Transformer tf101

Which one should i get..........?? Prices are pretty similar right now too.

I love my A500, but if I could have gotten either one for the same price when I got mine, I probably would have chosen the Transformer, because of the keyboard dock.

Why don't you take a look at the Transformer Pad tf300. It is the successor of your tf101 and the tf300 is better than both the A500 and tf101 in every way imaginable.

I looked at both. I would give the edge to ASUS over the ACER because of the battery life plus the optional keyboard dock. But I would also second the suggestion to get the TF300 because it is more up to date with ICS already installed. The TF101 has been or will be discontinuted. Also, if you go to the TF101 forum, you can see that many owners are complaining of issues after the ICS update. (It is better to get the new OS preloaded than to upgrade; many times, there are problems with the upgrade). I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 plus because I liked the smaller size.

Good point........have seen that while researching on it.

for 300 i think i would be best to go with a 7'' like the galaxy tab 7.0 2

The tab 2 was not available in Canada as far as I could see. But I managed to get the tab 7 plus on sale for $299 at Best Buy about a week ago. Faster processor, more storage than tab 2 but still running 3.2. However I am really nervous about the expected upgrade to ICS. On the one hand it would be nice to get the latest OS, but these generational updates can cause a lot of problems (eg transformer, and my own LG phone which had a disastrous 2.3 upgrade. If and when the ICS upgrade is available I plan to hold off upgrading for a few weeks to see if there are any glitches with others.

I'd go with the Asus because it seems they support their products. So it looks like all their tablets will have a longer shelf life.

Yeah i would have reccomended the galaxy 7.0+ but i figured it was out of his price range. I know what you mean though about upgrading the software. My little brother has a htc flyer and it ran great on android 2.3.4 but when the honecomb update came out it started lagging and is now unbearably laggy. Not sure why. It runs just as fast during games or browsing though

well forked out a few more dollars and got the Asus Transformer tf300

comes pre loaded with Android 4.0 ICS....was gonna get the 16gb version but with a friend having an Amazon*n Prime account the 32gb wound up being almost same price as the 16gb.

Good choice!

If you plan to do a significant amount of typing, go with the Asus tablets. I do a lot of typing and that is the reason I got an Asus tablet. There is no way I can type as well on a touch screen than on the Asus keyboard dock.

The keyboard dock also has a number of other benefits other than typing. It works as a very good stand as you can tilt the screen at any angle that is comfortable for you. If you are watching a movie, just dock it and sit back. The battery pack on the keyboard dock is also a nice feature. It extends the battery life of the tablet to up to 16 hours in total. It also has a two, full-sized USB ports for USB storage devices as well as a full sized SD card slot. The SD card slot is handy for downloading pictures from a digital camera for instance.

There are a number of third party keyboards out there for various tablets. I haven't seen one that really comes close to the Asus keyboard dock. The best one I have seen is for the iPad only.
