Root Which version of Android do I have on my rooted nook??

I just manually rooted a Nook v1.2 with Manual nooter 4-6.16 and am surprised and happy to say it worked. I was wondering how to see which version of Android this is and how would I upgrade as new versions come out?
 
If you have the Nook v1.2 and you used the Manual nooter method, most likely you have an iteration of Android 2.2 (FroYo).
 
Ok, when I do settings> I'm put into an B&N screen that shows "Device info" then "about Nook Color" says 1.2.0 (obviously the original firmware). I also lose the buttons at the bottom and have to go to the home screen, launch ADW to get back. I wondered if there was perhaps an app or something that would tell me what's going on (Astro?).

Along these lines, if I go to Cm7, will I gain anything? I have the market and a bunch of apps installed and running, so I'm pretty happy I made it this far...

With cm7 you get faster performance. Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Overclock ability, pure android, Vast amounts of options, the entire android tablet experience.
 
Don't forget... dedicated back, menu and status buttons that look like they belong there and don't look like a hack. :D
 
Ok, I'm convinced. I'll "upgrade" to CM7. I've seen the threads. I guess I just make the bootable microSD, add the zip CM7 file and boot off the card. Anything special to do since this is already rooted? When I did this (see above) I had to be careful to manual noot correctly based on the Barnes and Noble firmware version. Will CM7 wipe all that out and give me a fresh start?
 
It's recommended to format data and system when upgrading from the stock B&N rom.

When you format system, you lose the previous rom so it won't care if it was rooted or not.

When you format data, you erase your previous apps and settings so you may want to create a backup with Titanium Backup or a similar app if you have something you REALLY need.

If you boot off the SD card you won't lose anything. When you pull it out it will be stock nook 1.2. Put it in CM7. I think that is what you are talking about...
 
I think I misunderstood Mike.

I assumed he was creating a bootable CWR sdcard to upgrade the internal rom. :D

Guess that's what happens when there's several threads going on at once.
 
I was afraid of this! Well, I tried to get CM7 on my nook and it isn't booting all the way up. I formatted a 1G micro SD, used win32diskimager to write 1gb_clockwork-3.0.2.8.img to it. I then added the update-cm-7.0.3-encore to it as a zip file. I also copied gapps-gb-20110613 to it as a zip. I booted off the card. I went through the menus as directed in the post from this site. it said successfully intalled. When I reboot I get a read forever screen followed by "android" in tiny blue letters. Then nook color spells out and goes to a screen that has N Color with colors scrolling through the word color. There it sits, all night last night. Any ideas?
 
Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. After rereading the directions a few times and seeing other posts, I wondered if there was something funny about the partition. One post said it was somehow connected with the data format, which I didn't do the first time. I repeated the process, this time formatting system, cache, and data and I'm up and running CM7! After this morning's brief panic, I must say this is nice! The last mod I had was kind of half B&N. I kept finding myself in their software, having to hit "home" and relaunch ADW to get back to android. CM7 is pure android, nicely set up, and I can grab the ereaders off the market when I want them.
