Help Which_Launcher_are_you_using?

Hey Da, teach a man to fish ?? I would really like to learn how you are making these apk's into flashable zips. I would really like to toggle between ADW 1.3.3 and GoLauncher for a while to figure out which I like better ( so far, Go is much better looking ). Performance-wise, well they seem to be about the same on my phone so far. My problem is that every time I reboot, I have to re-select Go. Its a bit of a pain.

Hehe, i have now adw 1.33 , touchwiz and launcher pro in my phone as zip thanks to DaS, i wouldnt mind trying new ones like Go or Zeam, so yea DaS, link us to a guide or something.

Well, maybe we all love to try as many launchers as possible: But in the end the question remains: "Which is the best one out there for our unit?". Our Galaxy doesn't have much memory to spare anyway.

Hence the experimenting. To be perfectly honest, there are some that are faster than others. It all comes down to the one you like best. On mine, LauncherPro was clearly the fastest. I just didn't like the layout. I have it narrowed down to the newest ADW or GO and I am leaning to go because I like the transparent dock and it seems to run just as fast as ADW. It will also show you how much free memory you have and what apps are running.

Maybe you can send the go app to Das on pm like i did and he will make us a system launcher, or if he posts how to do it we can do it ourselves.
Edit: I just saw a review on yt about Go and it looks awesome, just like Pro but better. I like it becase of the dock, in wich u can put many apps, since i only use 1 homescreen (i find out that its smoother like this, and i always have 35+ free mb with just 1 screen).

Sorry for the delay guys, but it I just came back home and saw this, it's past 1 am and the only thing I can think of is my bed.

I'll try to put something together tomorrow, actually it shouldn't be too long to explain. Also if you guys like to create themes for apps, you'll know how to do it. ;)

EDIT: I posted something right there.

I started a new thread in the all things root sub-forum not to hijack this one even more.

I have a question. I am about to make my own zip for GoLauncher. I plan on taking the ADW zip, swapping the ADW apk for the GoLauncher apk and I don't even have to re-sign as I am not modifying the apk, Correct ?. From what I have been looking at, its really that simple. Right now I have GoLauncher installed, but everytime I re-boot, it defaults to ADW regardless if I selected GoLauncher as the "default for this action" or not. Once I apply the zip in recovery and select it once re-booted, will it actually stay as the default after a re-boot ? Will ADW still be there and can I switch between either at will and they will stay that way until I tell them otherwise ( even after re-booting ?? ) I guess what I really want is two launchers and the ability to switch and it remains that way until I want to change again.

I also have a similar issue with an alternative keyboard. I select it ( in language and keyboard settings ), long press on an input field and it works just fine. Then I reboot and it defaults to the keyboard. If I go to language and keyboard settings the box for the keyboard is unchecked. Is it supposed to do that ? If I make a zip for that will fix that problem too ?

I think you should try reflashing GAOSP if it doesn't remember your defaults. It is not supposed to reset either launcher or keyboard. If you want to flash Go Launcher i think you will have to replace ADW, but I'm not 100% sure (never tried not replacing it).

You cant have 2 launchers if you want them installed via recovery, everytime you will overwrite the other one! But why should anyone would need 2 launchers? You decide in one and you use it! If you get bored by it then save its settings and intall another one via recovery. This is how i do. I want to try Go launcher via .zip but i dont have time to do it now. I will try later and i will post the link if i make it. Also i will try to make a Zeam .zip. So we will have 5 launchers to chose from.

Weasel, you don't have to sign the .apk, but you should sign the .zip package just to be sure. Also, you should rename the .apk to ADW_launcher so it overwrites the stock one.

If you want different launchers at the same time, there is no need to install them via the recovery in the first place. ;)

As for remembering the defaults, I don't recall hearing of this issue, so maybe you could try what Frojd said.

I was previously using the 0929 nightly and I flashed the latest without wiping. All has been well with the exception of it not remembering the defaults. I'll give the re-flash a go and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I guess a wipe and re-flash is in order. Will keep you posted !

What do you say about the ADW EX launcher (dialer is laggy), but it looks and feels awesome. I'm impressed, how my Galaxy looks and feels now. :D
Like a completely new phone. :p

I cant install the touchwiz or launcher pro zip
I put them in the internal SD card and i go to recovery mode ( drakaz's recovery version 6.2 ) . I choosing apply and zip from sd card on select the touchwiz.zip file and it does'nt install this it write me that the install failed.
why?
i realy want to replace ADW with touchwiz
the touchwiz launcher is working good? the screen is not too much small and the titles are cut in the dockbar?

In the recovery, you have to select "Fix package permissions" before applying a zip.

As for touchwiz, I might be the one that made the package but I didn't even try it, so i can't help you there. Trying it for yourself would probably be the fastest way to get an answer anyway.
