I can't say if it's a known issue, but I have seen a few vaguely similar issues before. I'd give HTC a call rather than attempt a repair yourself, they might do it under warranty.

I'm going to prepare all possible arguments to politely confront these people

Being in France it will be difficult for me to join HTC corporate headquarters so I will have to deal with the retail outlet.

It's all fixed. I picked up my phone today.

All coverd by warranty.

The repair note says ""back lighting defect" ?
And "asssembly defect".
