Help Who got the blue tinted screens?

I just held my Fascinate up to my computer sceen and compared the photos mentioned above. My sceen has zero blue tint to it. It could not be any more white.....Not sure, but some may have issues and others not. I also checked out the wifes Inc next to the Fascinate and mine has a better white. Humm

Ditto. I held mine up to the images as well, mine was pretty white. It was also as white as my Dinc before I sold it.

The browser has it's own brightness setting seperate from the rest of the phone. While in the browser open - menu - more - brightness setting. Turn it all the way up and no more blue tint.

I'm on my 2nd Fascinate. First one had an ever so slightly skewed display; it didn't line up correctly with the frame or rather the "black borders". Verizon sent me a new one. First thing I noticed before I even turned on the unit was that the AMOLED display was correctly framed on all four sides. Perfect. Second thing I noticed immediately was that the new one was noticeably less 'blue tinted'. In fact, when I look dead on it, perpendicular to my eyes, it's whiter than my notebook paper or anything I tried comparing it too; aspirin bottle, grocery bag, etc...

or my eyes are playing tricks on me. Not that big of a deal but I'll investigate further if I can get 10k in grants and scholarships.

...now you've all got me worried that my screen isn't quite up to par.

I do get slightly bothered by the faint green line on the far far left. It's hardly distinguishable in most circumstances, but there are times I notice it.

Ditto. First one didn't have that faint green line. I would've noticed it because it was that side, the left, that was slightly skewed.

Now, I have that faint green line but it doesn't bother me at all.

I am on my second SF already, and both units has the green line on the edge of the left side, and both units suffers the blue tint. Here is the funny part, my friend's Samsung Galaxy from Tmobile are much better than mine. But before I bought my SF, I thought her phone was kind of blueish, but now that I bought my phone and compared to hers my phone are much worse..

I came from Moto Droid and DX and they are very white which I love! but this AMOLED doesn't impress me one bit with this blue tint. the only thing cool about this phone is the deep black compared to the other LCD screens..

Mine has a slight blue tinge when compared to my LAcie Monitor calibrated with a LAcie Blue eye Pro device. I noticed the brightness level plays a significant roll in varying levels of color temperature. When I had the device on auto brightness it kept the phone in the cooler range. I simply just turned auto brightness off and brought the level to just below half and that dramatically improved it for me. I'm sure this will vary from user to user.:o

No blue tint here

You may see the blue tint, if you put your Super Amoled phone next to a non super amoled phone, and turn on a pure white background. Try Googles white browser screen, you should notice the Super Amoled has a blue tint.
If you still don't notice a blue tint, consider yourself super lucky.

Another option, download "Screen Test" from the market, on both phones, run the white screen, and check that way.

Let us know if your Super Amoled still shows no blue tint after you compare like this.

So I own the Vibrant, and my phone has the blue tint problem also. Basically for those who don't know, you see a blue tint to things that should be white.

I've compared my Vibrant side by side to other Vibrants, Epics, and Captivates.

Here are my conclusions. Many of these Super Amoleds come with some form of tint or the other.

Possible tint colors I've noticed are:
blue/green, blue, blue/grey, yellow, dirty yellow, down right ugly brown(on an epic).

Some people may have been lucky and got one with absolutely no tint, meaning your phone produces pure warm whites.

Now, for those of you who don't see a tint, try putting your Super Amoled next to a non super amoled phone or lcd monitor, and fire up a pure white background. You may now see the tint problem when side by side next to another phone. If this is the only time you notice it, then no worries for you.

I like using Screen Test app from market, it lets you display a pure white screen. (ps..when you run this app, you will notice a horizontal dimmed area wayyy on top, a horizontal line going accross, don't worry your screen is not broken, i've noticed this on every single galaxy s i've used the app on. I've also noticed the faint green line on the left on every phone, that should be normal too, honestly, it is barely noticable unless you dig and search for it)

So, what do you do if you have a blue tint? Well, you might consider yourself lucky, I dunno. Some people claim, the blue tint was done on purpose. You see, the blue leds die faster than the other ones. Since the blue leds have a short life, the argument by some people is, that samsung purposely made the blue ones more prominant, thus giving a longer life to the overall display. I don't know if this is true or not.

Another option is trying to exchange your phone for one without the blue tint. I say, proceed with caution. Trust me, I've looked at several of these phones, I would hate it if I ended up with a yellow, dirty yellow, or brown tinted screen. You don't want to go into an endless loop of doing returns/exchanges.

Finally, I've noticed that the blue tint may be getting better as some have claimed would happen, either that or I'm getting use to it. One final note, although the blue tint is there, side by side comparison showed my colors look brighter.

Last time I went into T-mobile I was showing the employee and comparing Vibrant screens, she said "I see the blue tint, but honestly your phone looks nicer than the yellow tint, the yellow one looks dingy and old" I had to agree with her.

:cool::rolleyes::cool::rolleyes::cool::rolleyes::cool::rolleyes::cool::rolleyes::cool:

PS... ZuneHD, Incredible, and Nexus one all use Amoled screens, users have reported tint problems also, usually pink tint, but some reported blue too. Thank god my super amoled is not pink!

lol, and I just got done arranging an exchange to the DX with CS and I was adamant about not having to pay a restocking fee.

Man, I waited over a month for this phone. My replacement doesn't have the issues with the first but has new ones. The accelerometer is slow or weak. It takes a full 2 seconds to orientate itself each and every time I want to tilt to either landscape or protrait whereas the first was very sensitive and snappy. The power button has become a b1tch to press/depress whereas the first was relatively easy. The first was fast and quite snappy. This one will lag here and there. I've done two factory resets and find no improvement.

It has the blue tint but not as much as the first. In fact, I didn't even mind it really as it was a noticeable improvement.

I still love the phone but both have come with hardware issues that an OTA can't quite fix.

Just wondering, for those people who don't have the blue tint problem, do you mind posting a picture of your phone running a white background, next to either another non amoled smartphone, or put it up to your lcd monitor running a white background also. Take a picture, and post it here. I'm curious to see what kind of white your phones display.

Easy way.
Download Screen Test app on both phones
go to white background
place phone side by side
take a picture
post it here

If you don't have a 2nd phone, place the phone up to your lcd monitor, run a white background, either open up google homepage, or just go to goole images and search for white.jpg, place your phone up to the lcd and take a photo, upload it here for us to see.

This will really help the rest of us with blue tints, thank you.

HTC Phone on left, Vibran'ts Super Amoled on the right.
Both phoens set to max brightness

If you think your screen doesn't show a tint, try putting it next to a non super amoled screen, or your lcd monitor

I used an app called "Screen test" from market place, set both to white, and highest brightness.

share your photo too please! Especially if you don't have the tint problem, would love to see your whites next to a non super amoled.

that dark spot is my finger :)

The blue tint is on ALL Super AMOLED displays. It is unavoidable. Super Amoled uses RGB (red, green, blue) pixels to make white and due to degredation issues the blue pixels are much larger than the red and green pixels introducing a blue tint into light colors in general but its going to be more obvious on an all white screen.

I suppose someone may come up with a color correcting/filter screen protector to warm it up.. lol Honestly It doesn't bother me too much at all.
I'm not using it for reference in film/video or post production which I do in real life.

I have tried to inspect mine and it looks pretty white to me...of course AF looks bluish :D ...but everything else seems to be normal colors. :p

Well I played around with the settings and found if I turn off auto brightness & uncheck the power savings mode, the screen is now bright white. I gotta say the white background is extremely bright at these settings. I'm thinking the blue tint is deliberate on Samsung's part. This is probably to save on battery life & to make it easy on your eyes while reading text.

I placed mine next to a buddys T-Mobile Vibrant and using the screen test app man his was way blue compared to mine like the photos posted above. Both me and my wifes Fascinate are a much whiter screen but compared to the white screen on my LCD monitor mine has an ever so slight blue tinge but nowhere near his Vibrant, ill have to also compare it to my cousins Captivate.
