Who has all the handsets?

Orange haven't had any since 26th August and won't have any until the 8th!?! What the hell is that all about lol :D my mate is going mad.
He's called 'em up to upgrade, got a mint deal but now has to wait to receive a text to tell him that they are in stock (Like that is ever going to arrive lol )
He's been told that they receive them on an add hoc basis, sometimes 10, sometimes 700.
Sounds a bit slack if you ask me.
Does anyone think that there is a connection between a delayed Froyo release and low stock? Don't forget that they were blaming stock shortages on the success of the Galaxy S because it slowed down the production of the HTC as Samsung apparently manufacture the screens for both.
I wish I could treat my customers like this

Waited a month for mine from vf Germany (online store said they were waiting for delivery, mid-September), walked into a vf store and they had plenty in stock!!

As HTC are also sourcing the screens from sony as well in the form of slcd, then that shouldn't be the problem.
More than likely orange with their updated froyo rom causing the delays

My local orange dealer called every morning to ask for stock and got me one within a week. I doubt very much it's somethig to do with the release of 2.2 as they would release handsets if they had them immedietly in order to get the cash!! It is a business after all. lol :p

Walked into the o2 shop and grabbed mine straight away, they had quite a lot in stock even though they were selling them quite cheap(

Theres stock instores.

And the shortage is due to screens. And also if you think about theres 400 orange stores that need stock aswell as online and telechannels.

Well my store only has a couple left now hoping for more this week

I was in one of the major electronic shops here in Copenhagen and they had loads of them unlocked and unbranded for sale and i looked at the ones which they had displayed on the shelf, they were ALL i saw were amoled screens written on the boxes so i guess all the phones you guys are looking for are here :-)

Tell your mate to go into a store.
If he hasn't signed up for his deal yet i'm sure
they will "find" him a handset. happened to me with vf
i was quoted 3 weeks but managed to get one instore the
same day when i signed up ......

Im on T-mob, ordered 8 days ago and yesterday was told that they are expecting stock some time this month and they dont know when!!!

He got it today!!! (Tuesday) A day after it meant to occour. He didn't recieve a text telling him that they were in stock, just badgered the call centre and got through to someone who actually made an effort and got lucky :D
Still 2.1 but that's the least of his worries.

But at least he has one :D

so I wonder if the new Desire variants (the Z and HD) will use SLCD screens too? If not, then why is the Desire changing screen types; it's supposedly because of an AMOLED shortage (or have htc fallen out with their supplier!)
