Who is using Google Wallet?

I'm not - personally I'll wait to whatever payment system comes our way officially be that ISIS or Wallet.

I'm just not comfortable downloading a financial app that might ask for my SSN from a forum - even if it is XDA.

I was never asked for my SSN. Presumption is you are VZW just like me.

Everyone is right, it WILL ask you for a SSN number. I'm not going to use it right now. When it comes to my money I want something stable and reliable. The stage Wallet is in right now, I will not download and use it.
 
I know others have already said it... but seriously, google wallet has led me to have probably one of my best ever nerd moments. ;)

I just used it at OfficeMax (their new readers even have the Wallet logo on them) and it worked great! Only problem is that the transaction doesn't rectify with the online transaction history...

Also, VISA thought someone had stolen my card when I loaded up my pre-paid Google card. They didn't lock me out or anything, but the money never came out of my bank account and I got a letter and a new bank card (with a new account number) from them, stating that they thought the account had been "compromised" for the amount I put on the card. How reputable is this "Money Network, LLC?" (apparently they are a subsidiary of FirstData...)
 
I loaded my GW Google card from a BoA credit card, after which the BoA fraud detection team immediately sent me an e-mail and suspended my account. It took a short explanatory call to unlock. In the end, I am happy they, i.e., BoA, are vigilant, and we can't complain about Google not warning the banks if the app is not officially authorized. We are using GNx's GW at our own risk, thus loading GW from a well-protected credit card, as opposed to a checking or debit account, makes good sense.

yeah, I just called them and the VISA team said it is because of "unusual activity," not anything to do with the Money Network people's reputation (or lack thereof)... I thought it was funny, I just hope I don't keep getting new account numbers every time I load up...

Just to be more confusing (because it has recently been "simplified" which always makes it more confusing), Google "Checkout" has been rolled into Google Wallet- so no, not necessarily. Purchases you make through shopping under the Google search, or by clicking the "Google Checkout" payment option, is now technically Google Wallet.
To use the Google Wallet app to make purchases from your phone requires both NFC, and the hardware/firmware framework ("Secure Element") that allows the app to run, so yes. Right now this is just the Nexus S 4G (only officially supported device), and the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus (via modded versions of the app).
