I want a new tv, 37" or bigger lcb 1080p. I've been looking around but I don't know which brands are crappy and which are good. I wanna spend around $500, preferably less. No craigslist, I want a warranty.
 
LCD Panels in LCD TV's are generally made by one of only a small handful of manufacturers. I Like the Samsung Panels myself. Sony sometimes use these panels too, aswell as Sharp.

Basically, the better brands - the main differneces are the model panel and the firmware used. Go and have a look at some in store. I've been very satisfied with Sony Bravia and Samsung LCD's. My next tv will be LED though.

At that price range, you aren't really going to get much - especially if you want a warranty alongside the TV.

You could go with a 40" plasma - just shop around. Those are usually in the $550-800 range and are great purchases. Stick to Panasonic/Samsung in the plasma dept though.

I know nothing about USD prices. What price could you find a reconditioned Samsung Le37b551 with 1 year warranty over there?
 
I suppose the equivalent model would have to have a different model number to differentiate ac power input. Shame
 
I've got a 42' insignia (best buy brand) that i absolutely love. 2 years ago when i got it i think it was 600 bucks. 1080 60hertz 3 hdmi ports
 
I have an LG LCD for my living room. I've only owned Samsung and LG TVs and haven't been displeased with any of them. I always purchased plasmas before but decided to go with an LCD because my living room gets a lot of light. A living room with a lot of light is a plasmas worst enemy as the glass will become like a mirror. Don't get plasmas unless you have a fairly dark room or want to keep the blinds closed a lot.
 
There's another issue with plasmas which still happens, although modern sets are a bit better in this respect, and that is burn-in. Where the screen retains a visible burned image of whatever static picture was being shown. Not really a problem with normal TV or movie viewing, but can be a major problem if one is planning on using a games console for hours on end with a plasma TV. Although I've seen TV channel station IDs permanently burned into plasma TVs, e.g. CCTV1, CCTV5, CCTV News.

Don't even think of using a plasma screen as a PC monitor.

BTW they use plasma monitors for information at the local airport. Even when the monitors are OFF, you can still clearly read 'Arrivals', 'Departures', 'Air China', 'Gate 2', 'Boarding', 'Hohhot', 'Beijing'....

I have a vizio and a Samsung LCD TV and both are performing well. The vizio is like 2 years old and still llooks great picture wise. The Samsung about 6 months and the picture is unreal being as big as it is. Well big to me.
 
I've picked up an Lg55lw5600 back in April, wanted to go 3D and having kids figured passive tech was the way to go. Don't regret it at all, I love the set and have since had a pro cal. done on it to make the pq even more magnificent. Vizio's use the same panels as LG I believe (ips) so IMHO you really can't go wrong with either.
