I have had my Eris since 23 December and love it. I use it heavily, have tried tons of apps, and really like it. No issues. The battery life could be longer, but with my normal heavy use I can get two days of life out of a charge (barely), but on a really heavy day, it needs charging at night. Considering the charging slot is USB, I never see this being an issue since I never need a proprietary charger.
I am on my second Droid. The only problem I had with the first one was a short in the head phone jack (which was probably my fault). Functionality wise, both have both have been phenominal. They are really snappy and call quality has been great. I have never dropped a call or had any problem going on line. As for the keyboard, after about a week of getting used to it I have had no problem and I have really big fingers. I do find that I am more likely to use the onscreen portrait keyboard for everything except messaging. It is just so handy to be able to type with only one hand.
The only time I have had any lag is when I tried using some on the alternate home screen application like Open Home or Panda Home. Some of them try to do way to much and bog down your phone. I am currently using Launcher+ which doesn't do anything except add additional home screens (up to 7) with no noticeable reduction in performance (but your millage may vary). You will be amazed how quickly you will fill up your three standard screens.
I would highly recommend the Droid to anyone!!! One word of warning, your wife/girl friend/significant other will get really annoyed at how much time you will be spending with your new phone. I know that mine does.

My wife got frustrated with mine yesterday
I asked her to call someone, but because she hadn't even put her hands on it since I've had it, she could not figure out how to unlock it to make a call LOL. However, she's ready to ditch her BB because of how trouble free my Droid seems to be.balaams_ass

I was 3rd in line on release day. I returned that phone for a cosmetic issue with the slider. Other then that I have enjoyed this great phone.

Have had mine for about 4 days, and I love it. Seems like everything is in working order so far.
You have to keep in mind that when something bad happens to someone (or to something they just bought) they are VERY quick to whine VERY loudly about it. But when things work as they're supposed to (or at least as expected) you'll never hear tons of praise. so just keep in mind that anyone who has had issues with their phone are the minority of droid buyers. (Also worth noting is that what some people see as a "flaw" or "defect" is simply just a different way that the droid handles a task compared to their last phone.)
That being said, I have had no problems with my droid at all and am quite happy with it. the physical keyboard sucks but it works as it's supposed to. It's heavy, but I knew that when I picked up a floor model in the store. the battery life is less than desireable but that's only in comparison to my previous blackberry which carried enough juice to jumpstart a broken down truck.
My only complaint is that yahoo email is not working as it should, which I hope gets fixed with a software patch release, but there are options to work around that minor flaw.
