Who's signing up for the Chrome OS project?

I would be surprised if the whole system was HP since they were not on the list of partners that will be launching devices when it goes public.

240 megs of RAM:

I just spent all night on my Cr-48 and the only thing I used my regular laptop for was playing music from my collection. Though now that I think of it I could have fired up Winamp Remote or AudioGalaxy, both of which are running on my Windows 7 laptop right now, so that was just me not thinking.

I really like this. Great idea and i'm happy to see Google pushing for future technology today.

I'd like to remind everyone that if you get one you get 100mb of free data per month through Verizon's 3G for two years. So depending on where you like to hike, you might be able to do some work from that mountaintop.

Also: I'm up to 86 on Chrome For A Cause!

I don't think I got it...

The cr-48 was delivered at 6:11pm to the address in my town. The problem is that I live in an apt and nobody is there to sign for it at that hour. And the final destination city changed from my city to an adjacent city...

Tomorrow I will find out for sure...

Nope- didn't get. :(

It was one big cocktease. UPS listed my city, but the cr-48 went to the little city next to me with the same zip code... booooooo!

SCREW YOU GOOGLE! I'M NOW ONLY USING BING, GETTING AN IPHONE, USING FIREFOX, AND GONNA USE HOTMAIL INSTEAD! TAKE THAT! STINGS DON'T IT?

I keed, I keed... anyways congrats to the cr-48 peeps and good luck to the others holding out!

after using it for a few hours i can say it does what it's designed to do rather well. its a small portable device with awesome battery life designed for internet use.

my biggest issue is lack of rdp/vnc. you dont need a powerful mobile device when you have a powerful home pc that you can access via remote.

Since i got one as well (last night) i thought i would let you know you can use logmein free to remote into all your other pc's from the Chrome OS NoteBook.
Also sent you a Pm i cant get my wifi teather to work from my droid to this laptop.

Jeez, if you live and China and purchase a cloud based notebook that runs on Google services then you're just a moron. Likewise, if you regularly travel to China and purchase one then you are just as dumb. Stop with that argument, it's not valid.

Again, it's BETA! I have no doubt that they'll introduce offline functionality. There are already some Chrome web store apps that operate offline and i'm sure there are more to come.

Edit: Looky...Google Docs offline support coming in early 2011

yeah tried that one...and a few others. it seems the remote through browsing is just slooowww :( im using teamviewer for now since its free.

was gonna try the rdwc but it seems chrome doesn't like activex...and the notebook refuses to install ie tab :(

haven't tried the wireless tether since i have a crappy intercept and never bothered to root. but from what i've seen there is a few complaints about the notebook and connecting with wifi in general :/

ActiveX is Windows only, not Linux. Maybe the 'rdwc' should start using something which not so proprietary.

Presumably things like buggy Wi-Fi, tethering problems, VNC, TOR, etc, should get fixed.

Google Docs On Chrome Gets Offline Support With Web App | Chrome Story

Well I'm waiting too see just how much of a success Chrome OS netbooks and laptops are going to be. And if we can actually use them effectively in the real world.

from what i've read chrome does support limited activex...but google see's activex as a nightmare and security risk...and rightfully so.

there has been mention of chromoting which is googles solution to remote desktop. i know i know the notebook is free and the OS is beta but i'll qq anyways lol

I think they did it only in the US because these aren't practical in the "real world", meaning Mongolia and China :)

Google didn't send them to Canada or Mexico either. I guess it was the extra cost of shipping Chrome OS laptops internationally, which stopped Google doing it.

I'm thinking of when Chrome OS laptops eventually go on sale to the general public. A non-techy audience whom expects to find a Windows key, Start menu and MS Office on their laptops. IMO Google will have to do some serious marketing and a good education programme here.

I would think that you're right about shipping internationally, but more importantly they're probably focusing the product in places where wifi is prevalent.

Marketing yes, for sure, but I wouldn't say they need to do too much educating. Just make sure the marketing includes "Cloud based" and find a nice way of saying that the whole OS is just a browser.

Are you serious? You know, ie and activex are part of windows right?

Chrome OS is so easy a caveman can do it.
