Root Why am I getting this?

Any idea why I'm getting this during Step 8 when trying to unlock the bootloader?

C:\Android>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I re-read all the steps up to step 8 and I did everything as instructed.

"1.go to the htc website:HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader
2.at the very far right there should be a drop down menu. scroll all the way down to the bottom until you see "All Other Supported Models". do not select the evo 4g(korean). that is an entirely different phone.
3.just follow the steps. and use the files that you downloaded earlier when asked.

HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader

Step 1

Remove and reinsert the battery then proceed to step 2. For devices without a removable battery, long press the power key then select restart. Hold down the volume down key while restarting to start the device in Bootloader mode.

Step 2

Press Volume Down and Power to start the device into Bootloader mode.

Step 3

Use the Volume buttons to select up or down. Highlight Fastboot and press the Power button.

Step 4

Connect the device to the computer via a usb cable

Step 5

On your computer create a new folder (For Example: C:\Android) where we will be putting the following 3 files in this new folder:

  • adb.exe
  • AdbWinApi.dll
  • fastboot.exe
To find these files:

a. Run the

do you have all the adb files in the android folder?

Prior to starting the whole process, I had created a folder and downloaded the following into it:

C:\Rooting

  • adb 159 KB
  • AdbWinApi.dll 94 KB
  • AndroidFlasher 1,197 KB
  • chromeinstall-6u27 889 KB
  • fastboot 69 KB
  • PC36IMG_RA_2.3 3,540 KB

Then when I got to step 5 in the "unlock bootloader" process I discovered that another folder had been created with some of the same files in it:

C:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools

  • api File Folder
  • lib File Folder
  • renderscript File Folder
  • aapt 806 KB Application
  • adb 159 KB Application
  • AdbWinApi.dll 94 KB Application Extension
  • AdbWinUsbApi.dll 60 KB Application Extension
  • aidl 216 KB Application
  • dexdump 130 KB Application
  • dx 3 KB MS-DOS Batch File
  • fastboot 69 KB Application
  • llvm-rs-cc 18,866 KB Aplication
  • NOTICE 369 KB Text Document
  • source.properties 1 KB PROPERTIES File

Is it right that some of the files needed reside in two locations or is that causing the issue? If so, then why was I instructed to download some of them if, during the process, they were downloaded again?

in my guide to this process, i have set it up so that you have only the three files needed for rooting. i would delete or move all of the sdk folders and files and only use the ones i have provided here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

Ok, makes sense to me but why is that Android folder created if we have already manually. created a folder and downloaded the files we need? Seems like there should be a step i should have skipped so the sdk files were never downloaded, right?

well in the HTC guide it says to only manually download those three files and then move it to the android folder. but i have already pulled it from there. you do not need any of the other files you have.
