Help Why are so many people having issues with 2.2??

aero522

Lurker
Ive had nothing but happiness since i installed 2.2 but i keep reading how people are having issues with radio, earpiece quality or stuck boot screens. So many issues from the same update??? What is going on??

I think its a matter of numbers and perception:

most negative statements tend to stick in our minds. So when we hear people say what problems they are facing, it sticks out. Numbers-wise the forums are a small number of Incredible users, But there are probably more posts about problems than there are posts about being bug free. If you're not posting you probably don't have problems.

i guess....i was just wondering cause i just did the manual install and a little worried phone would start screwing up

No problems on this end. Works lovely. Such Froyo sweetness.

Seriously try a reboot or pull the battery. Might help.

I think that there is the key. The majority of people, that have no problems, don't feel the need to post.

I would actually say fairly few people are having issues. Launch day saw a lot more problem posts.

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts.

If you screwed up, there are many answers here (some are even good ones!!).

so far so good so i hope not to jinx myself. and as droiddave said a simple pull and install battery fixes more issues than many can believe

besides awfuly terrible battery life, the fact the weather widget can't recognize the town i'm in anymore, and the battery getting extremely hot extremely fast for no reason, along with the bloatware that's constantly open, i guess it's a cool update....oh wait also that it takes like 5 hours to charge now, when it used to take 2, and yet bump charging is still needed...hmm..i'm thoroughly confused as to wtf is going on with 2.2, but i'd love to go back to 2.1 more than anything.

I had the same my location issue and thought it was because of froyo. It's a problem with your settings as someone advised me. Go to menu > settings > location > check Google location services. This worked for me and others.

it's already checked.

i did notice there's a new option there though, something about verizon location bullshit. if you check that, though, the lil lines around the GPS thingy turn on....so i guess it's a type of GPS. that didn't help either though.

Froyo's been pretty good to me so far. My only complaint is that the screen seems a tad less responsive. Especially in the browser. I know it's mainly because of Flash 10.1 but it's annoying. I miss the smoothness of 2.1. Disabling it helps a little but it's not the same.

Have you tried that wipe I recommended earlier yet? With all of your problems, I really think you need to do it before something truly bad pops up..especially with the overheating battery.

zemerick, i suppose i might as well....it's just such a damn hassle setting everything up again. i suppose i'll do up a my backup pro thing tonight and then do a factory reset. ugh. haha

I was scared doing it myself not wanting to brick my phone but I followed directions and it went flawless. this phone is frigging fast now screen up dates web browsing call quality signal strength higher most apps runs faster as well. no phone pad delay of typing either. very pleased with upgrade. When I see people having problems I try and post the solution as quickly as i can so others can enjoy the faster system.

I spend close to 2 hours updating to the official 2.2 modded (right term?) by virtuous. I had no problems with everything from rooting, updating radio, to wiping and installing the rom.

So far, I love it. It's amazing how "alive" webpages look now with flash running smoothly.

Haven't used the 720p camcorder yet. LOVE the flashlight.

Virtuous ROM removed some of the "bloatware" on the untouched official 2.2

So far I'm pleased with the update :)

I had a few hiccups with 2.2 once I installed it via Update.zip....but they were all specific to me....and there was a logical reason for them. I fixed all of them btw. I needed a new Froyo Updated Special Keyboard and I needed to update my Flash manually. People on phone forums f*** with their phones.....things happen.....they research, they fix it.

After resolving those two issues (the keyboard and Flash)....Froyo works flawless on my phone. Runs faster, better all around.

My music player has gone crazy on me. Uses the same album art for every song and everything is under Unknown Artist now. Such a hassle to play music anymore. =(

Other than that, everything has been smooth and silky. It feels just as good as it did the very first time I turned the phone on. I've been very happy with it.

I have had issues too.
I got the update notification during class so I told it to wait and got back to it after class. I updated it while walking around school. no issues till the final reboot.

1. The droid eye is just a static image and not an animation as I have seen or would expect. Takes about 5 whole minutes to start up too (not just first start. I have had to reboot to fix other issues and still lag at startup)

2. old notifications appear after restart

3. phone wont vibrate for ANY notification as specified.

4. Tried to use phone to call someone and at first the phone app icon didnt do anything. After reboot phone app would open but was just black screen. One more reboot to work.

5. audio jack seems to detect any cord as a headset (as in it thinks i pluged in mic and headphone) causing music to have issues.

not good for a new update?

Definitely having issues so far.

Phone, text messaging, and contacts won't work at all anymore and just force close.

Unlock, home screen, and everything else runs incredibly slow.

And getting the low on space message again, though I am definitely not low on space.

Any one experience anything like this? My phone is pretty much unusable right now. At 2.1, I got the occasional low space warning, but defragging helped to get rid of the issue. Now I can't even make a call....

Guess I am just gonna have to do a factory reset....

Well, factory reset seems to have everything working again...just have to reset everything up. Oh well....definitely seems a bit faster overall. I haven't gone through these threads enough to see how people have been liking the 2.2 update, but hopefully the call quality is a bit improved. That is really my only complaint about the phone so far.
