Help Why can't I find WINAMP at Market?

Flashrat

Newbie
I'm having a little trouble with Android Market. I can't seem to find WINAMP when I do a search on my Flytouch 3, yet an identicle search on my HTC Desire finds it - see attached photo I just took. And there is a count differential of 50.

And the same thing happens when I search for Google Earth - I have it on the HTC Desire but cant find it with the Flytouch 3 in Android Market.

Model - DISCO10
And Vers - 2.2-20110529
Kernel Vers - 2.6.32.9
Build - FRF85B

Also has Tim's 5A installed.

You can't find a ton of apps on the Market. Even if you upgrade to the new Market like I did which unlocks the paid apps you still do not find some apps. For example I can't find , no matter what QR Droid on market. I am guessing because the market can't recognize the model of the tablet. hen I enter the market though my PC i see my Orange San Francisco there registered but, of course, the tablet isn't there. You just have to manually download it. I usually go on google type the name of the application and apk with it and i find it. As in "QR Droid apk".

Weltall, thank you for you help. I'll hunt down the needed apps via Google.

However you do cause me another minor problem. Once the APK file is downloaded to my PC how do I then install it to the Tablet?

Dropbox is your easiest answer.

Install Dropbox on your PC & Tablet, create a folder called for instance APK inside the dropbox on your PC, drag the apk files inside that folder, install dropbox on your tablet from the market, let it sync files & folders, open up dropbox on your tablet, go to APK folder, and press on the apk you want, let it download & open in your tablet, install - easy.

Takes about 1-2-3 minutes to sync between folders, so it isn't that much waiting.

And there are plenty of forums to get single apk files from without having to google, at least they will be more reputable than some random file found too :)

And if you have a phone that is linked to the app store, then Titanium backup works a treat, download from store, backup on phone - move/copy the backup files to the tablet - restore. Delete from phone if not needed.

Well I personally have made a folder on my micro SD card named Downloaded. I use a usb adaptor to connect the SD with my pc, throw in every apk I have downloaded and then connect it back to the tab. After that I just open the file manager of my facepad and go into the downloaded folder. Then just tap on the application i want and the install message pops up.

But, if you do not wish to keep turning your tablet on & off, removing & inserting your SD Card, then Dropbox is an easy option.

Another way would be to use FTP over your WiFi or LAN. Get something like SwiFTP on your Droid, FileZilla client on your PC and set them up to talk to each other - it is easy enough, but shout if need more help on this.

Either method above will then mean no need to turn off tablet, no need to remove SD card.

And you should really use something like APK Manager (free from the Market) to install & uninstall stand alone APK files. :)

Why would I turn my tablet on and off. I just go in the menu and at the storage i umount it take it off then put it back on and remount it.

Why do that at all?

If that is your way and it works for you - great, but imo there are better options than the way you do it out there :)

Well it worked. I put Winamp onto the SD card then plugged it back in, fired up, and used File Manager. Now I just have to move some music over to the Tab and plug in some proper speakers. Thankk for your help.

Could you perhaps install the apps via a usb memory stick, either direct or by copying them across to the sd card.

And I may have to look at getting APK Manager, then I guess you can install by using File Manager and Uninstall with Systems, but maybe APK Manager tidies it up a bit.

Yes you can. You can connect any kind of usb device be it a thumb drive or a small external hdd and it will read it. Personally I do not use it cause it doesn't read the usb devices for me. I read on a thread that there is a solution and Tim5a even supports NTFS.

I do not uninstall with system i just hold my finger on the app liek you do to create a link but instead of dropping it on the hoem screen you drag it to the recycle bin that you use to delete shortcuts. If you will hold the app for a couple of seconds over the trach bin it will ask you if you want to uninstall it.

I following this step and found more app (winamp too)

Market
If you're still missing apps in Market do the following:

- Connect at least once with Market & your account.
- Then go to settings => Applications => Manage Applications => All
- find Google Services Framework from the app list
- click on clear data + OK, then force stop
Reboot.
wait about 1 minute after you're back in.
Start Market again. (if it crashes, wait a bit and try again, it should go through)

Then you should see more apps after that, like google maps, Skype & such. Paid apps are still not available unfortunately.

Thanks Thanawat, I tried as above. It half worked. I can now see Winamp (which was my original complaint) but still Google Earth evades me. Perhaps if I tried it again.

And thanks Weltall, a nice trick re the use of the trash bin, I'll keep that one in mind.

I've picked up quite a bit so far from all you guys. My FT3 is now a lot more fun.

If anyone is still looking for Winamp try here http: //www.filecrop.com/winamp.apk.html Works fine on mine with Tim 6a

Hiya,

Market filters the apps depending on the hardware. If you have the right hardware you get the paid apps, if not you only get the free apps. But it also filters on the type of processor, and the Flytouch processor is not compatible with Google Earth (or the new Firefox).
