Root Why did you choose your Optimus Elite?

Artine

With Drew's work on Cannibal Open Touch/ClockWork Mod for our Optimus Elites, and various talk of upgrading or changing phones, it led me to the question:

Why did you choose your Optimus Elite?

Was it the specs?
Budget?
Etc.?

NOTE: Looks like this accidentally went into All Things Root as opposed to general, if a mod could help move it that'd be awesome, thanks!

the hope for development on the elite like it was on the V which hasn't occurred yet. not saying things wont kick start, just that it hasn't. ended up with a device that functions well for me as a phone, but doesn't data wise. the device has been more of a hassle than an enjoyment in owning.

I also upgraded from the V and got to keep my $25 plan. I'm not that worried about development honestly because this is a way better phone.

I didn't even know about the $25 plan until two weeks ago. The lady I bought it from at the store said nothing about it to me, so when she signed me up she just did the $35 and I've been buying $35 top ups ever since. Then unread about it online and switched when my month was up two weeks ago.

But in response to OP, I bought it because the store recommended it. Never heard of it before then.

I was ready for an upgrade after having my V for nearly 2 years. Virgin came out with all these tempting phones at that time including the One V, Elite, and Evo V. I saw a post on Craigslist of a guy claiming to be a selling a new in box Elite for and I quote "half the price or less". It sounded like the dumbest scam in the world but I ended up checking it out. Turns out it was brand new and he was telling the truth so I got it for $60 when it had just come out 2 weeks prior and was going for $150. The guy I guess lost his Walmart reciept and couldnt take it back so he was trying to just dump it somehow. Not a very good haggler he was :smokingsomb:

While looking to get away from my Verizon contract, I found this forum. I did a lot of reading and research, but the crowning jewel was Radio Shacks $110 deal. I really don't know anything about ROMS so I'm not missing them. I rooted to get rid of Virgins HORRIBLE startup animation. And coming from a dumb phone, crappy data doesn't bother me much.

So to sum it up, I got a VM Elite, because it a good phone for a great price.

Between 1 July 2011 and two weeks ago the $25 plan didn't exist for new customers, so she didn't tell you about something you had no way of getting. Last summer when the Triumph was released they ended the $25 plan.

Huh, thats strange. Maybe they started it back up or something. I'm not making it up though, I promise. My memory's bad, turns out it was only five days ago lol

I picked it up because of the decent specs. Nothing outstanding but indeed a step in the right direction. For all the things I do with my cell they were more than enough.

Size, weight and design was a key factor in my decision making. The 3.5'" screen is useful to use whether sending text messages or using the browser. I like the thin thickness of the cell and feel of the battery cover. Grips well in my hand and easy to hold and use one handed. Because of the thickness you can feel the weight savings. I suppose after carrying my previous cell for 2 years you can tell just how light it is. Not to mention how easy it is to slip into my pocket.

I came from a S and loved the development that was put behind making it much better than what it was suppose to be. I know the Elite can go down that road also and look forward to it.

Based on all those points is what made me pick up the Elite.

my contract was up with sprint and needed to save some money so i went to best buy and the elite was on sale for 99 dollars so i bought it and the top up card

I suppose since I'm OP, I should share my reason as well - since I failed to earlier.

Living on my own on a low budget, but in need of a new (read: real) smartphone, VM with the Optimus Elite was a perfect fit in my budget - and, actually, I'm very satisfied with my overall experience with it. I haven't had data issues or wifi issues, though that may be in part to the various tweaks I've done. Overall, it seems to kick ass at every turn with everything I throw at it, and I'm quite happy with my purchase. It might not be a Galaxy SIII, but at least it's not a Rumor Touch or being in a jail cell with iAnything.

That, plus the versatility of the Android OS itself, equates to myself being a happy customer.

I got mine because it the requirements I had when I was shopping for a phone. Not having had a cell phone for over a decade, I didn't know how much I would really use it. I didn't want to sign up for a contract and get stuck paying every month for something I wasn't using. So it had to be prepaid.

Along the same lines, I didn't want to buy a $400 piece of electronics that I wouldn't actually use. I set my upper limit at $150. And I already own a laptop so I couldn't see the point in getting something with a 7" screen that was cumbersome to carry around.

I had no idea what android and iOS were, except for the fact that android was open source and iStuff was locked down. Even if there were any iThings that fit into my price range, I would have ruled them out for being locked down.

When you add all those things together, there was only like 2 phones on the shelf at best buy that day that fit. The Optimus Elite had slightly better numbers as far as newer OS and more horsepower, so that the one that came home with me.

i checked out the $25 option this morning and in fact it is there if you pick "dont see your plan?" or something to that effect. but for me the $25 option is grayed out. but i suspect that is because vm was adamant about me having to relinquish my old plan at the time and go up to one of the others. i picked the $45 plan at the time.

I checked it recently as well and it is greyed out for me as well. But I am already on the $25 plan.
