Root Why did you root?

It would be an interesting thing to know:
What was your specific reason you rooted your tablet?

Force of habit, I suppose. I've rooted every device I've ever had my hands on, including my last 2 Android-based phones. I like having the control. I like using TiBu to make daily backups. I like being able to use farhbot's Call Master app to block unwanted calls.

I'm now so hooked on apps that require root, I suppose the real answer here is that my comfort zone and use of particular apps required me to root my Infinity.

I have rooted my previous phone (Eris) for the only reason that I could
overclock it.
For this tablet I don't see any convincing reason to root. It is also unclear for me how does rooting affect the possibility of further OTA updates.

I also not quite clear about the difference of rooting and unlocking the boot loader.
Do I get this right? By rooting a have root access privileges (like administrative access in Windows) and I can use specific apps that take advantage of it.
Unlocking the boot loader (in addition to rooting) will allow me to load custom roms, right?

Yes exactly that.

I rooted as I use titanium backup to keep backups of all my data. But then it's not long before I wanted to unlock and install custom roms.

Ad-Free is another really nice root only app to have as well.

I absolutely need to root an android device because

: I am used to a Linux desktop (all android is linux for consumer devices), and am insulted by being told NO by a stupid little phone when I know better

: TV ads are in our face 20 minutes every hour: to get rid of ads. There is no way ads should be in my face on everything I see. TV stations should pay ME for interrupting paid programming for infomercials. I'll tolerate ads the very moment congress passes a requirement for truth in advertising.

: To create an actual backup that will restore my system, not just backup caches to programs that can't be backed up (like the system)

: Change screen resolution at night when my eyes get tired or when it's bright outside

: (phone?) Child safety, monitoring web, and disallowing unacceptable callers for teenage daughters
