Root **why do i have to downgrade from 2.3.4?**

i'm not new to rooting but new to rooting the Inc.

i have an Inc that i was going to play around with. It was/is stock on 2.3.4 it apparently got the GB ota.

i was following this guide

everything has worked so far. I'm to the point of flashing the pb31img.zip but i have a question first.

Why do i have to downgrade? I want to flash roms and such. I'm rooted now why can i not just go about my way as usual of applying roms and such. Why must i downgrade to 2.2 first? Or do i even have to do that?

You don't necessarily have to downgrade. That's done so you can run the new version of Unrevoked and get your bootloader s-off. That way you can flash unsigned zips in hboot and get root back should you ever lose it.
