Root Why does it say 2.2 after 2.3 root?

Hey guys, first post here!

Just rooted my HTC Desire for the first time from 2.2 using Leedroid 2.3d, and all seemed to go smoothly.

Two questions if I may:

1)- I don't really notice a difference between 2.2 and 2.3, what can I expect besides a 'more refined experience'. Is there any way to know for sure that I have 2.3 going, like a special app or option I can set?

2)- When I go to Settings, Software Information, Android Version it reports as '2.2'?! Why? The software number says LeeDROID_V2.3d though. Why does it say 2.2 if I am on 2.3? Is this a LeeDroid glitch of some sort that I just need to ignore or is it a symptom of a bigger problem?

Thanks!

Leedroid 2.3 is only android 2.2

There are no 2.3 Roms with sense that are fully working

If you want Android v2.3, you can use another ROM, like GingerVillain that many here use. However, as mentioned by SUroot, you will have to give up on HTC Sense.

Really?! lol so what was the point of rooting and running LeeDroid 2.3? Is there any benefits over the generic ROM?

Not complaining at all, but when you see 2.3 you expect to be getting 2.3 right? Or am I alone on this one lol?

So if I want actual 2.3 I need to use this 'Gingervillain' rom? Hmm, do you guys recommend it? What is the loss of Sense going to mean?

leedroid 2.3 doesnt mean android 2.3, gingervillain is 1.7 now, doesnt mean android 1.7 lol

sense loss mean u wont get htc sense with gingervillain

The 2.3 is the version number of leedroid as oppose to the version of android it's based on. Leedroid will be faster than the generic stock ROM and also gives you the ability to use Apps2sd, if you were to lose sense and go for GV then you can essentially expect even more speed gains, but can't use the Sense widgets.

Definitely recommed trying GV. Try using launcherpro for a while, if you get on with that and don't miss sense, then Gingervillain will be your best bet!

Yep. GV (now with v1.8) is the most stable and bug free ROM I've seen so far.
Very happy with it. :)
