why does it take so damned long to delete texts?

Back in the day I had a Moto RAZR and it took what seemed like an eternity to delete text messages. At times I could walk away from it and come back and it would still be deleting.

I'm not so sure it's an OS flaw. I would be more inclined to say it's just the nature of the beast.
 
From a technical standpoint, there really isn't a good excuse on why it takes even more than a couple seconds to delete.
