Help Why does Kies with Samsung Galaxy S2 require Admin privilege under Windows 7 64bit?

John.JCAT

Lurker
I was only able to get Kies working with my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone by using Administrator privilege on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. Of course, that means that all the local file locations (and the Microsoft 2010 Outlook configuration) are those of the Administrator ID, not my non-administrator ID. I do not run my PC with an ID that has Admin privilege, so I use another ID for that purpose. I have the Kies working now, but it was not a simple process to figure out, and it requires that I start it up as an Administrator.

I understand the need to us Admin privilege to install Windows drivers, but not to connect to the phone and move data using previously installed drivers.

My question is: Why is this necessary?

Hmm, not sure what's wrong with Windows 7, but never mind.

John, I don't have an answer to your problem but I also have Win 7 x64 and I definitely don't need to run Kies in Admin mode. That suggests something odd going on.

I gave up updating my SGS2 with my Win7 64-bit PC. I had to use the Win Vista 32-bit PC instead.
