Why doesn't the Nexus S record video in 720p@30fps???

First thing this morning I ran down to Best Buy and bought myself some gingerbread. I've been a bit hesitant to do so but really want to have the latest android os at all times. I researched things so I thought. I have the vibrant and assumed that the video recorder in the nexus s would be comparable to the vibrant. Hardware wise that's true however, Google has made the Nexus S so that it doesn't have an HD Video recorder. Is google going to upgrade the video recorder to HD? Please tell me yes or I will be taking the Nexus S back to the store.

From what I have read, a stock google os doesn't support 720 recording. All the other phones that have HD recording are done by the phone manufacturers. The Nexus one didnt have it either till I believe someone developed it for the roms. Stock Android=No 720 ...

So what your saying is that in order to get 720p recording I need to root my phone and install a ROM that does support it? I bought this phone to get the latest android versions and now it seems that for an android to work best you have to root it and get a third party ROM.

Thanks!

This phone should have been released around April-May 2010 or so.

Everything released beyond June takes a major shit on the Nexus S in terms of BASIC specs.

720p is not native to stock android that's why.

To put it simply, there are features Stock android has and doesn't have, I honestly don't see why a lot of people don't get this. This is partially one of the reasons why I could never understand owning a stock android device because stock android is missing so much that the manufacturers add to it via their wifi. 720p happens to be one of them. The camera software is probably not going to be as great as the Galaxy S variants because that was manufacturers cause. People originally said they would like the Galaxy S if it wasn't overlayed with touchwiz. Google probably saw this and thought hey why not give them that? now that it happened people complain even more about this phone with things that only pertain to Samsung devices mainly. I.E. No updates, or broken gps. Aside from updates I always loved touchwiz because it offered so much but just wasn't supported as great. Now in a few hours I will be a Nexus S owner, why? I wanted a "limited edition" device something I wouldn't normally see around my area but has great specs. Nexus S fitted this category. It meets all my minimums. It was either this or the MT4G but the dev cmmunity still hasn't gotten overclockage above 1.4ghz. MT4G is really solid I liked it but everyone just had it. Plus this is a lot better in so many ways. Although I might sell my Nexus in a month or 2 when dual cores fall in but without 2.4 its pointless. Oh and especially being that Nexus series have high resale values and demand. I could simply trade for the phone I want lol
