Why doesn't VZW offer a Wifi hotspot app?

With 2 million ipads sold, I don't understand VZW's rationale for not offering some kind of wifi hotspot app that you'd pay $30/month for on a month by month basis. It seems like it would be such an easy money maker.

Forget the $30/month. If we pay for a data plan on our phone, VZ should give us free access to VZ Wi-Fi Hotspots.

Even AT&T does that for iPhone owners at no extra charge....

I'm pretty sure the only way we're going to get wifi tethering w/o paying verizons fee, is through root.

I'm not even trying to talk about getting it for free, I'm just saying from a business standpoint, why don't they add an app. Seems like they could make major money if they priced it competatively.

Oh, my bad, I was thinking free because that is what I'm looking for.

I agree that it should at least be an option, just like tethering.

Yeah, I remember seeing that advertised on the TV. Why can't we get that!

Because they needed some extra feature to get someone to actually buy a Palm Pre (i.e. a phone from a dead company).

Android phones don't need many extra selling points to move right now.

they let the pre and pixi do it.

if the wifi hotspot is secure enough, yeah, you will probably see it.

you will pay the tethering, but yeah, i think youll see it.
