Help Why is Gmail not alerting me?

I need help! Gmail is not alerting me when I have incoming emails. I get nothing at all in the notification bar. It used to work but it has stopped. Can somebody please help me, this is driving me crazy?!

Try looking at your settings under notifications as well as in the Gmail client itself. Good luck.

I noticed mine was set to not auto sync today and that is why I wasn't getting notices from gmail.

Ok so go to settings , data synchronization and make sure background data and auto-sync are checked ...
