Help Why is maps always eating battery?

For some reason Maps is always showing as using around 20% of battery.
I have removed all widgets such as weather that i thought may be related to Map use but still it contiunes.

My phone has been on for 10h today and shows 20% battery use by maps with a CPU total of 35m 38s & Stay Awake of 57m 38s despite the fact I never opened it.

I have tried to stop/kill it but doesn't seem to make any difference.
Whats going on? I never had this problem on my Desire.

PS - GPS is not enabled at all.

Just removing widgets does not stop processes. If you can, uninstall/ reinstall the apps you need.
If this does not work, find a good app killer. If the battery is old u may need to replace.
If u haven't already try remove / replace battery. Most smartphones need this periodically to refresh system according to use. If any of this helps, let me know with thanks button. Olskool

I know this thread is old, but I have this problem too. Usually Maps is 3rd in the battery use list behind Display, and Android OS.

Something is using Maps all the time, because Maps is eating my battery even when I reboot and don't start the app myself.

If you haven't already done so try logging out of Lattitude as this constantly updates your location and might be causing Maps to be constantly on the go.

i think its better to keep Latitude to update ur location manually anyway :D i dont want my location tracked every time. lol
