Why is my GPS icon always on?

Who knows, damn icons are getting more numerous and smaller every year. Won't be long you'll have to glue a magnifying plate over your display so you can read it.

They're two different things. I'm still not totally sure what the crosshair icon is but I think it has something to do with location services, 911 tracking, or something to that extent. The satellite dish (for GPS) has two states, one with blinking waves next to the dish when it's searching for a lock and then solid when it has a lock.

It is indeed for e911, which stock cannot be turned off. Personally I'm all for it.

Yes, I am in favor of the service, but since it is always on, do we really need an icon to tell us . . . that it is still on? I guess I just don't like the clutter. Not a big deal, of course.

Nope, that is a much better way of doing it. No icon is needed, if you need 911, then dial 911. If you connect, then you CAN connect. Not like people are just going to call for shits and giggles.
