Help Why is my text notification playing the wrong sound?

JohnJSal

I used to use the default text app and I had a particular sound set for notifications. But I have since switched to the Google messaging app and I chose a new notification sound, but now when I get texts it still plays the old sound.

I even went into the default app and changed it there so that both apps have the same sound set, but it still often (but not every time) plays the old sound instead of the one that is currently set.

Is there somewhere else I need to change this setting? I would think changing it in the Google text app would be enough.

Why is it doing this?

Thanks!

You will need to go > Settings > My Device > Notification ringtone > see if your new sound is listed in there and set it to Default. Cheers Neil.

If I go to Settings > My Device > Sound, there is a setting for a notification sound. However, this is set to a different sound altogether and it is the sound that I hear when I receive any notification *other* than a text.

So even if this setting matters, it is still not set to the sound that I am hearing when I get a text message.

I am stumped as to why I am hearing this particular sound at all. As far as I can see, it is not set anywhere on my device.

Not an answer to your original question, but I think that if you try out Textra, you will be impressed with it.
Easy to set notifications, easy to set theme colors, I use dark mode which is easy on my eyes.
Easy to delete more than one inbox item at a time.
Easy to Star an item for later review, and much more.

Awesome suggestion. I really like it so far. Now I'll see if it does the same thing with the notification sound.

But still, I wish I knew why it was doing that. I don't have that sound set anywhere, yet it plays it anyway!
