Help why is my wifi signal strength so low?

I have four android phones in my household, eris, moment, incredible, And droid.
They all have 3 to four bars on wifi and there browers and market downloads are snappy. With the droid it only shows the dot and sometimes 1 bar if im right next to my router b/g. Is there any fix/patch for this. also this was on stock 2.1update1 and cm6 rc1.

Have you tried any of the baseband updates?

I'll look into that, but do the base bands have an effect on wifi? I thought they only affected voice/data signal strength.
