why is there a youtube app?

The youtube app that came with my triumph just endlessly shows a spinning busy indicator when I use it to try and play a video. If I use the web browser, goto youtube.com, and search for the same video it plays perfectly with no delay at all. Is the youtube app supposed to be good for something? :-).

It works the same way on my LG Esteem. Although at times it will play everything I select. Its nice for people who have phones that don't support flash player.

the app talks to the youtube site differently than a browser. pulls different video. not flash video.

also I bet they use it for tracking browsing traits and stuff like that.

I found that the app is WAY easier to navigate and use over the mobile site. I prefer it.

altho it may do non flash videos for phone that dont have it, i believe convenience is one of the main reasons it is an app

just like facebook, you dont technically need the app cause you can open your browser and go to it, but the app makes it show up a lil different, the app also saves your info for instant log-ins

so id guess you can do the same with the youtube app, makes the whole database mobile friendly, and probly saves your youtube info into the app so its like a one-click youtube

as for the youtube just forever loading, if your running stock i had that same issue, idk but on my stock phone the youtube app NEVER connected to anything the entire time i ran stock, but would also insa connect if i went to the webpage, once i switched to custom rom it works fine now lol

The app seems to work much better for me than the web site on both my Incredible and my Xoom.

That said however I sometimes have to use my browser when I try to watch videos that have been marked as not viewable by mobile devices (a concept I've never quite understood).
