Help Why is voice-to-text so inaccurate?

The noise canceling mic is at the top of the phone by the headphone jack and I cover that with my finger. I speak into the phone towards the bottom - the voice mic is next to the microUSB port.

thanks i'll try that and see if i have any better luck in my car. :)

The question should be how is it bad on the S4 and great on the Note 2.

I don't have a S4(still trying to decide) but I did have a Note 2 for a few weeks. I could be completely hammered and slurring my words to no end and the thing was PERFECT every time. It was one of the most impressive things.

The software is the same, Google is the same..so it has to be the microphone itself that is not as good as the Note 2.

I agree with this. My note 2 was brilliant at speech to text.... Hardly got a word wrong. The s4 on the other hand hardly gets a word right.

For the folks who have indicated that voice to text is not working well, are you using S-Voice? Or Google voice to text (in google search for example)? Or Dragon voice to text (as in swype keyboard)?

I haven't tried S-voice, but Google voice to text and Dragon voice to text seems to be fairly reliable (ok -there are instances where it gets a few words wrong, but not that common)

I am using the Swype keyboard for everything - does that mean I'm using Dragon?

this helps!! Tested it a few times today!! Thanks!! :)

I find if I speak more slowly and enunciate a little more it works perfect for me, but I normally tend to talk a little fast, if I don't speak slowly it fudges it up completely. :D

I believe so.

go to google now, and in the search bar, click the micropone button (or just say "google") and speak - does it work better?

Problem solved.

Hold the phone at least 12" away from my mouth when talking!

I'd hold my old Droid Charge about 3", but the S4 doesn't work very well at that distance.

Glad I finally solved my issue... only took a few months... brwar!!
