It's funy, I have a CUSTOM Accessories 2-port USB adapter (from like, Wal-Mart or something). It supports 500 mA @ 5V on each port (supposedly). Normally, I use a USB y-adapter to draw the full 1A as I keep hoping it might speed up the charge (doesn't really at all). However, I can still charge it fine without needing the Y-adapter.
Not sure what the power requirement differences are, but I know I can't use that split charger to charge both my phone and my fiancee's MotoDroid at the same time. *ponders* I'm looking into the spec's now to see if I can tweak the circuit inside the adapter to give me a little more juice.

I bought one and it's identical to the HTC adapter and cord that came out of my DI box! Cheap, easy, and WAY safer than soldering and trying to figure out why your phone charges so slowly. I searched OEM HTC TC U250 on Ebay and bought from Auctionwireless. I bought an extra because I have an inverter in my truck that will charge my husband's phone (or anything else) at the same time. We never have to buy phone maker specific car chargers that way and with the over-voltage protection and the fuses in the inverter, it's a lot safer for our expensive phones. I paid $18 for the inverter at Walmart.com and there are probably cheaper ones out there.
Let's all plug our $300 phones into a $3 charger that may or may not work because it's CHEAP. No thanks. If I have enough money to spend big bucks on a great smartphone, I should have $10 to spend on a OEM charger. AND if I can wait for three weeks to get the phone in the first place, I can wait for five days for an Ebay shipment from Florida to Oregon.
