why only Tmo?

Hey guys :)

I don't understand why the Nexus is tied to Tmo only.
Their monthly plans ($79/2GB, $50/100MB) are expensive
and make me want to wait for a better phone for Cricket.
Or do I have any other choices?

Thanks,
Pat

May go to other carriers, but Tmo was 1st to jump on-board with the NS project, and agree to an unlocked/un-bloated phone (or so this is my understanding). Not sure where you got your plans for Tmo info, but that doesn't look right.

That's not even close to the correct plans. 30 for unlimited on smart phones. I didn't follow the link but that sounds like the prices for laptop connection.

Viewed both links, and they both said; "Buy a Prepaid phone or Prepaid Mobile Broadband device now; when you receive your phone or device, activate it online, then choose the plan that fits your style."

I think (and I could be wrong), those plans are for a pay-as-you-go type deal. And I don't think the Nexus S would qualify - which is a good thing, as the contract plans are a LOT better! (see link below)

Tmobile Plans

If you don't want a contract, the plans are even less - Best Buy can maybe show you those options, or buy the phone and go to your nearest Tmo store and they will show you non-contract pricing. Good luck! :)

Those are not the plans you want. T-Mobile removed the Even more Plus plans from online. You either have to order the plan in store or over the phone. I just got mine friday in store $79.99 unlimited everything with No Contract / Even More Plus Unlimited.

I dont get how thats any cheaper than Verizon...thought Tmo was supposed to be the cheapest?

Verizon costs $89.99 for unlimited talk and text and $29.99 for unlimited data. That is $119.99 before tax. T-mo is $79.99 before tax with no contract for unlimited everything. Not to mention it is $2.99 a month more for visual voice mail on Verizon. Bringing your total to $122.99 before taxes!

How do you not see that T-Mobile is cheaper? You buy your phone out right with t-Mobile to get that deal & NO CREDIT CHECK.
If you Buy your phone out right with Verizon to go with no contract they still run your credit!

You may be buying the phone and paying up to a $400 deposit for service plus the $122.99 per month before taxes. That would be $1052.98 before taxes for your first month on Verizon!

As opposed to $609.98 for your first month on T-mobile. Yeah you're right T-Mobile is not cheaper LOL LOL LOL! :)

I am talking about the actual plan itself....

Also I use Gvoice so I don't pay for texts on Verizon...my bill is 79.99 on verizon.

I also never buy unlimited minutes...who the hell does that? id be going for the lowest minute possibility which is 500 on Tmo, and 450 on Verizon...still works out to $79.99 for me.

Nothing special...verizon has better coverage. Wish this NS was coming to verizon.

*edit* I also don't give a shit about credit checks. I have perfect credit and have nothing to worry about.

People who use their cell phone for a business line use unlimited minuets. As for perfect credit good for you but there are a lot of people who have spotty credit especially with the jobless rates today. So yay for you have fun bending over for Verizon! And yay for wanting to be tied to a contract! :)

Wow you take it very personally when I say I don't think Tmo is that special. If you are using the cellphone for a business line then sure go for unlimited minutes.

If you don't have a job, you shouldn't be wasting your money on a smart phone either...

And why is a credit check bending over for Verizon? Just wondering.

I don't take it personal LOL. Sorry if I come off that way! A credit check is not bending over but being tied to a contract when there are so many providers and options is.

I agree about not having a smart phone with no job, but if you had it before you lost your job well then yes I would have one. most big companies make people apply online. The hospital my girlfriend works at does.

It would be cheaper to have a smart phone than having a home phone and paying for internet at home while looking for new employment. Don't you think?

No problems. As for looking for new employment, yea its a tough situation out there.

Tell me about it! I opened my Karate school in 1999 bringing in about $10,000.00 a month. I also worked a full time and 2 part time jobs bringing in about another $4000.00 a month.

In 2007 I was forced to close my school due to health reasons and the failing economy. By 2008 I lost my other 3 jobs. I have been out of work since then and I send out resumes and apply for about 50 or more jobs a week!

Thank God for poker! LOL

I walked in today and asked the rep what option I have with the Nexus.
He said it's either 500, 1000 or 1500 talk min & text plus $30 for data.
He didn't know any details. He said, if I'll come in Thursday to get the Nexus, I'll
be leaving the store with the phone and will have to contact Tmobile for the details.

?

VZW is 69.99 they just changed it for unlimited talk and text. You only have to pay a depoist if you have awful credit I am in college and have very very little credit and I didnt have to pay any deposit

Thanks for the heads up on the rate change. T-mobile still wins out in price though. I have to say the coverage is getting better too.

I am a phone whore so I jump around a lot. LOL. VZW does have great coverage but I just really hate them for some reason. I am an under Dog kinda guy.

Plus any company arrogant enough to charge $350 for a termination fee is a total _____####$!$!$$ lol. Which i just paid my 4 month pro rated ETF on my Droid X. it is all cool Because I sold my X and made enough to pay it and someone bought me a MYT4G.

Which i actually just sold and bought my Nexus S. Then I bought another Nexus S and sold it on ebay for $900+ lol all gravy!

$80 prepaid today for one month of "even more plus" unlimited everything. Not too shabby.

Now that they don't advertise the EM+ plan online, what was your experience like when talking to the T-mobile rep?

Did they just set you up with the EM+ plan with no hassle or did they try to persuade you to get a contract plan?

You bought a Nexus for $525 and sold it on Ebay for $ 900 ?

Should we wanna know?

People overseas are buying them like wild fire. Some people are selling them for $200 or $300 but charging 5 6 or even $700 for shipping and people are buying them!!!!

The Nexus S is tied to T-Mobile because they are the only carrier that will let Google run a pure Android device on it's network. It's kind of like how AT&T let's Apple call all the shots with the iPhone. Android has standard features like wifi hotspot and tethering that carriers charge for. However, if you own a Nexus device those features are free and you cant be charged for them. The phone is currently compatible with all T-Mobile plans as long as you carry the minimum data package. Don't listen to Best Buy reps they don't know anything.

Understand.
I'm disappointed about their service. The coverage map says good reception.
I get 1-2 bars 3G in my office with 0.9 Mbps down, 0.1 Mbps up.
No service in the kitchen and it drops calls.
EDGE in the bedroom 0.1 Mbps down, 0.06 up.

No bars at work in the cubicle.
Outside is great, but no service as soon as I'm in a building.

A call to Tmo yielded nothing. Nobody can pull any info on the NExus S.
All they could do was telling me to cycle the power on the device, after which it came back to 3G instead of EDGE.
