why people should wait...

You will get into a never ending waiting game....

By the time they hit the streets, rumors will be amuck of something better on the horizon.....

Its a never ending game.... Get what you want, when you want it and be done.... If not, you will always be playing the game...

I got my Nexus S yesterday(ditching iPhone) for one reason, Pure Google. Of course I wish it has a better specs. To me, what is the point of having a dual or quad core phone without the latest software. I have seen all the complaints on this forum of many android fans still running 2 or 3 generation of old android OS. Now at least I know whenever Google making a new software I am first in line.

Yeah that LG Optimus looks awesome. To bad it only has a 1500ma battery. It may take the prize away from the Droid Incredible for being the phone with the shortest battery life :(

I disagree with this post. Why should people wait for the LG dual core phone, when the NS is available with 2.3 right now? So what if better specced phones are coming in 2011. For those that want updates straight from Google, you gotta get the N1 or NS.

Clearly, the OP has his own agenda (as evidenced by his multiple posts hyping up dual core phones, which are not even commercially available yet), to discourage folks from buying the NS. It's pretty simple; if you want Android unmolested and straight from the source, buy the NS. If you want the phone with the best specs, wait until 2011. In the world of Android, there ain't no such thing as "future-proof"...

Kinda incorrect, they are commercially available. This 2x released 3 days ago in asia. It will release here shortly after. No agenda just expect better things from an phone carrying the label NEXUS on it.

@Vapor

Dude use common sense and i'm not talking htc here. I want you to think about something ok and really understand what I'm about to tell you . Are you sitting down? You ready? Ok here we go.

The current official devoloper phone(nexus s/nexus 1) of android has a single core processor. (are you staying with me please pay attention). Like previous android developer phones such as the g1 and n1 the nexus s will no doubt be placed in the hands and pockets of many of androids top developers. Even now as I write this I guarantee you that somewhere in northern California there is a team of Google employees testing out latest iterations of apps on this single core processor phone. It runs stock android the thing that all of these mobile phone manufacturers cover up with their own little home made skins none the less the common thread which connects the dozens of different android phones that are relesed every year is underneath all the layers its still android at the core.

THE G1, THE NEXUS 1 AND NOW THE NEXUS S ALL SERVE AS THE ANDROID PLATFORM'S CORE.

and unfortunately it's not yet dual

DUAL CORE ANDROID PHONES ARE IRRELEVANT UNTILL THE DAY GOOGLE STARTS DEVELOPING ON THEM.

And if you continue to use common sense and look at the time line between the g1 the n1 and now the nS it looks like that wont happen untill the end of 2011.

However dual core tablets may be a different story altogether.

Either way the NSs owner's will be on honeycomb while the masses will still be on 2.3 if their lucky but more likely 2.2 and FAIL

So basically ill have the single core ANDROID DEVELOPER PHONE( I'm placing my words in uppercase cause you need to understand this:-) running the LATEST ANDROID SOFTWARE ALL DESIGNED AND OPTIMIZED FOR IT.

While you will have your new dual core LG which is running software not optimized for it. Not only that but the software will most likely be obsolete 1 or 2 iterations behind what's running on the dev phones.

Dual Core Oh yeah X-D ROFLMAO :-D

you can say that all you want but why would I want a phone with a single core thats already behind the times in the processor. Thats like going and buying a 1ghz dell when theres core i7s sitting on the shelf.

Not sure why you guys dont grasp that concept either. If Im paying the price for the newest model, at least give it to me.

Can't WAIT til that damn LG dual core phone comes out. That way vapor311 (and all the other hardware junkies) can take their whiny posts to that forum, instead of clogging up this forum with their whining and misinformation...

NS is Android, all other non-Nexus phone use Android. You want dual core. We get it. So, you can either buy the LG phone (or any other dual core phone) when it comes out, or wait until next November when Google will likely announce a dual core Nexus.

Complaining on a message board about a phone you obviously don't own (and probably haven't even used yet) is just annoying.

None of that matters if your running a 32bit OS on a 64 bit system since the OS has no idea what to do with the hardware. You are completely missing the point that by the time the platform is optimized your fancy new dual core phone it will be obsolete.

Exactly! The Nexus S may only barely be the most powerful device currently (debatable considering the GPU is unrivaled though the CPU is a bit aged), and will certainly be overtaken by dual-core devices come Q2 2011, but I bet you it'll still run Android and almost all of its apps faster than any other device up until Google comes up with a dual-core device of its own.

How hard is it really for people to understand... Google makes the OS, if they don't optimize it for a dual core, which they have not, then your precious extra core will sit there doing much of nothing.....

Its really pretty laughable to think otherwise...

Well like Rage Against the Machine said

" If ignorance is bliss.............Then wipe the smile off my face"

some people like to learn, others like to think they just know.:p

the gang mentality is wasted. I fully allowed to have my opinion. To think that google isnt hard at work prepping to make use of the dual cores is ignorance of its own kind. They have already said Samsung failed them in the design of this phone. They have already said that HTC will make the next one. The phone was announced and the ship date was set, they had to go forth with it. Disappointment or not they were committed to giving it to you.

Look up Ron Sparks with HTC Mobile Design team. Im not giving you his number because I wont be responsible for "handing" it out. Leave him a vm or get his corp. email and send him a message asking if Google has already expressed their distaste for the S and what their future plans are.

Dont be shocked to see a new Nexus within 12 months.

Preparing.....I dont think anyone here is arguing that. Having optimized android by the end of Q1 with roughly 3 potential devices ready to run it, I will go out on a limb and say most likely not. Just a side note but nobody is kicking your opinion, its the sure hand statements, that will cause disputes. Is it your opinion that you have not seen enough flaw in the technology that we have at present to assume that any further tech will bring upon further problems? Do you feel that the current Android OS has done all it can? I would love to read anything official that says google was not happy with this phone. What other phone is in the works for a potential donor that could be released at this time? Sure if google felt like waiting until 2026  I am sure the new nexus would have been quite impressive. I am a tech junkie and believe me I can see where your optimism comes from but no matter what you read about
A) it wont be out as fast as they say it will
B) there will always be something else coming out

you will never catch up and the game cannot be won.

To me there is nothing to be ticked about, eveyone claiming this is a side step, and all this other BS, what is out RIGHT NOW that would have been a better donor? there is NOTHING. Everyone is just ticked they chose Samsung over HTC or over Motorola. I am not a FANBOY, I hold no LOYALTY to ANY device. They are ALL CRAP in there own way. You dont think so ? go back to the main page of the forum and look at the board, almost every single post is somebody crying about something their phone is doing wrong. Not having loyalty allows me to go to whatever is hot at the moment and be able to move on with no feelings of abandonment. The shelf life of a phone is like a year at this point, nothing is permanent, at this point a GREAT phone like the Nexus1 is being refered to as DATED hardware and its a YEAR old. I assure you google was not waiting until Q2 to release their new phone, and do hope that they DO have a new Nexus made by someone else next year :D. Until whatever comes out next I think the new Nexus is a cool phone the only problem I see with it is that Tmo has it, and they dont even have service at the mall they are selling from .

You do have valid points. I dont hate the phone. I was truly set on getting one. However it does truly infuriate me that a "unbranded" phone for 500$ doesnt have the band for att 3g? That fact alone makes the phone useless to me. I stream slingbox that alone is a must. Add in no expandable memory, another deal breaker for me...I store huge movies for my kids and play them through in car monitors etc. The phone is missing tiny things that were so minor and easy to include its not funny, its like samsung just forgot or were to lazy to include. I dont know what the issue was.

The phone was not forward progress from most phones on the market other than the OS. Its really on par with the Idevice4. Thats a sad statement seeing as Im pro google :(
