Root Why Root?

Been using the free mobile hotspot on my thunderbolt for a while now, havent allowed the new update yet. Phone seems to be running wicked slow lately, but i want to keep the free mobile hotspot, have no other good internet options at my work. What does rooting do for me? been reading up on it but only can seem to find how to root but not why to root. will i be able to use mobile hotspot for free, and reliably? that's really my biggest need, that and for the internet to actualy work reliably on my phone and when hotspotting. If someone could clue me in it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If thats your only reason to root then u probably shouldnt do it. as for wanting to b able to use the hotspot for FREE thats more than likey one of the reasons bhind tiered data plans and locked bootloaders preventing the use of custom kernels by certain phones. i am rooted myself but for the customization of my phone and to get rid of the bloat that verizon has put on this very nice phone. ive NEVER on any phone that i have rooted used tethering at all and dont plan on it. if you want hotspot pay for it but thats my opinion.

Agreed, if you want the service you should pay for it at least on an unlimited plan.

I root because my phone is mine not HTC's or VZW's it is mine. I like the freedom to break away from the bloatware both HTC and VZW think I need on my phone. I like vanilla android more than sense, some elements are okay but if I want those I have already paid for more customizable ones from the market. I like to overclock because I know the phone can do it. I like the comfort of knowing if I have to factory reset my phone all my data is backed up so I can easily restore it. I like knowing if I get drunk and feel like screwing up my system apps I can. I like knowing that the next day I can spend time fighting a hangover and trying to fix my system apps and figuring out why system.android keeps force closing. (Woo hoo OG droid days). I like knowing that I will not need to wait for HTC and VZW to tell me when the next update for my phone is. I like helping people out on these forums. I like being able to tell you you should pay for the hotspot and knowing you can just as easily say "eff you I'm rooted and I will tether my phone for free so get off your soapbox." These are the reason why I root.
