Root Why root

ok i have changed roms , radios and such on window phones. so what does the rooting do for the betterment of the phone besides removing bloatware? better antenna? anything else?

It depends upon the phone. Root privileges allow you to interact with the OS on a more basic level, so that you can remove the bloat ware, monitor temps, replace kernels (for faster booting / overclocking), replace ROMs, etc.

Currently, on the BIONIC, we're limited b/c of the locked bootloader, but with root privileges we can still freeze / lock / remove bloatware as well as backup system and user apps.

Once we have a workaround for the locked bootloader (either a new unlocked bootloader or a secondary way of re-initializing the phone after the bootloader to allow for custom ROMs and such) we can do some of the other things I mentioned above.

I can - for example, I'm not rooting the OG that Imma give to my Dad - he's 70 and needs time to assimilate all the goodness that Android is, forget having to deal with rooted notifications and the like...

OK, so it's not *me* that's not rooting, it's him, but I'd be the one rooting it, so...

I call "Foul!". We're talking about your Bionic! :p
(My wife's got my ROOTED OG. She likes it that way.) ;)

Nah, he doesn't need it and will mainly be using it for GMail sync more than anything.

Mine (BIONIC) is rooted - and I already froze and app I shouldn't have (experimenting) so now has been factory reset too :P

Rooting again as we speak.
