Help Why the long delay when going into Handcent?

Lately when I click the notification, or just the icon, to go into Handcent, there is a black screen that is probably 10 seconds or more, before handcent finally loads.

Is there a way to correct this?

With about 15 messages, it took about 4 seconds to show. When I deleted the messages, it's less than a second.
Also, I keep seeing suggestions to clear the cache too.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Handcent SMS > Clear cache.

i've started experiencing this as of late as well. Not sure what is going on.
