Root Why to root?

sansdeity

Lurker
I've read tons of posts about rooting, what ROMs to use, etc. but I haven't seen any threads about WHY to root.

As I am new to this and will be receiving my Inc2 tomorrow, why should I root?

People root for different reasons. For me, I rooted to install a ROM that wouldn't have all the VZW bloatware in it. I also wanted to be able to customize my phone more than what Sense allows you to do.

1. delete bloatware.
2. custom roms with more features (like sense 3.0 lock screen, etc..)
3. custom kernels that not only make your phone faster, but use less battery life.
4. adblock
5. backing up your installed apps with titanium backup is nice.
6. etc...etc...etc...

The above reasons for sure. I left the iPhone so I could have a device i actually could have control over. Its the whole reason I went with Android, got an Eris and could never go back.
Root gives me the option to do whatever I want with my phone. That includes turning it into a fancy paperweight if I screw it up too bad (I have actually tried to brick a phone. I couldn't). I can overclock, undervolt, run custom software, hack sh*t, and more. All with more style and speed than stock.

Thank you! Thank you!

Oh yeah, I like voiding warrantees too. Seriously.

I can only think of one. It voids your warranty. If that is not a concern then there is no reason.

No way to revert back to the stock ROM?

Rooted last night. Was much easier than I thought. Currently running TSM Gingerbliss0.2 (Sense 3.5/Android 2.3.5). I like it but it seems this was made more for the newer dual core phones.

Going to change to TSM Trinity 1.0 (Sense 3.0/Android 2.3.5) today. Supposedly, 1.1 is coming out tomorrow.

Love not having all that verizon crap on the phone.

Thanks for the input fellas!

I have yet to find a very good reason FOR ME to root. I gave it a try on an old Nexus One I have today and completed it successfully. However, I just don't see the appeal of it for my needs.

As far as the bloatware from Verizon, I just don't use those applications, so they never get in my way. And as far as visual changes, I make use of a launcher and other apps.

Obviously there are benefits to rooting, but I have yet to encounter issues on my stock Inc2 as far as performance goes. The use of a third party launcher makes a big difference in things like scrolling, etc.

To each their own.
