Why we should support iphone fanboys...

We should support iphone fanboys because we don't want a stampede of people rushing over to the Evo. Why you might ask? Because we don't want sprint's network to go down the crapper because a billion people are using their Evos. Do you really want your neighbors and friends to have the same phone as you? I like the uniqueness of Android and the Evo. I like being the only guy on my block with one. I...umm...nevermind, forget everything I just said. Everyone please throw away your Evo and get the new iphone 4! It's the coolest phone out there and everyone's gonna have one. ;)

I like people moving to Android but not to the Evo in particular. It's cool how there's a wide variety of android devices on all different carriers. I hope the Evo keeps it wow factor while android continues to develop as more and more users move to the OS. I was just trying to show off some of my clever satire at the end. I completely agree with you. More people to Android = more apps and innovation for users. I was just trying to show that something that seems negative can be turned into a positive. :)
 
I am getting my Evo tomorrow from Sprint. Switching over from ATT and can't wait! I am currently trying to convince one of my friends who has had an iPhone since they came out (HIS ENTIRE FAMILY HAS ONE) to switch to Android. Android is spreading like wildfire right now and as they gain marketshare they will improve. We are the lucky people to be here before the number REALLY increase. This competition is good for iPhone users as well. Apple now has to compete with a number of phone manufacturers to keep their number 1 position. In the end, everybody will win. I do like that the EVO is not as widely owned as the iPhone. Makes me feel like I am bucking the trend. The funny thing is that this is how Apple owners used to feel

ATT coverage is pretty bad. I used to be an iphone fanboy but then I got hooked on Android (and webOS for a bit). I'm a little worried about the rate of new phones coming out. Every 3 months, it seems like a phone is obsolete. I think the Evo's impressive spec list along with 4G will keep it in the game for at least a year. Also, hopefully webOS (another OS based on linux) gets more devs and better hardware. For now, I'm loving Android!

OS? No.The OS is the worst thing about Apple phones. But they do have tremendous developer support which did come from the economics of the userbase (large number of people with disposable cash).
 
Actually the Sprint network (and VZW for that matter) Can handle more data than ATT's network.
 
I totally support the Apple fanboys. I think the iPhone trend has really made other carriers stop and take notice. I left T-Mobile a year ago because I was tired of the crappy selection of smartphones. Now I am with Sprint, and we have some decent offerings, but I feel as though we still have a ways to go. I thought the Palm Pre was going to be the game changer. But it was plagued with hardware and software issues. I can't stand a phone not being able to do what it should. And I think the iPhone does what I want a phone to do: it just works. Now if we can get HTC to come to the table with a phone that has good build quality and just works, I think we will have a winner. iPhone will always have a huge following, because it makes a smartphone so simple to use that a 4 year old could do it. And admittedly Android takes a little getting used to. That's not a bad thing, it just isn't as user friendly to the "fat middle" demographic that the iPhone tends to appeal to.

The iphone "just works" if you dont touch it while making phone calls or using data. Check out whats going on with that phone. It seems like we may not be hearing so much of this "it just works" talk after this release.

Sure its simple. Thats good if i am recommending a phone to my grandmother. But if i am telling a friend what to use and he likes tech at all then i am saying android.
Android is selling 160k phones a day. That was from google at the Droid X release today. Imagine that. 160k per day. Sure it takes some getting used to. But that is changing more each day. I dont think a person will have a hard time figuring out an evo. Its not that complicated.

I do support innovation and competition. It makes things better for all of us. Even if you have to hear some dork say "it just works".......not talking about you here.:)

I don't want a dumb phone that any idiot could operate. I like to think as myself as a little smarter then that. Android gives their users choices and options to do what they want. It gives the people some control of their phone.

For everyone else there is an iPhone and their is nothing with that but, we don't need every device to be dumb......Not every device needs to relate to every single person in the country. That's what makes us different!

160k/day. OK. Impressive. And just for fun, here's backup proof published over at Yahoo.

Trusting that article, that works out to 58 million Android vs. 44 million iPhone year (yeah - lousy flatlining to get that number, big deal).

Over the next year that's distributed with 44 million of a single model phone and a method to keep all of them exactly at the same OS revision vs. 58 million fragmented into 20+ models (anyone know the latest count?) with how many active versions of Android still selling? Five?

Android, to the unwashed, is some "thing" better than Apple - but until there's much more momentum than this, the choice to an Evo might not be as simple as you make it sound.

That's just my opinion - and as I started, I'm just leaning that way at the moment.

As consumers, we kinda need both in a product to be well-served.

I'm not sure if Andy Rubin would just lie to everyone about this. Its not me you are disagreeing with. It's the numbers google are giving. And its not just in the US.

The most impressive thing isnt just the number of activations per day but the increases google has gotten in recent months. People can say fragmentation or not but even the mighty apple has fragmentation. When people talk about apples mobile market share many of them even include itouch and ipad numbers. Plus how many people are 2g or 3g iphone users? Its the same as early android adopters.

It makes no sense for us to go back and forth about how many phones apple or google activate. I'll just have to trust they are not lying to everyone when they release their numbers.

"Google's Andy Rubin during the Droid X launch today revealed that over 160,000 Android phones are sold every day. The tally is a huge jump from 100,000 each day in May and would theoretically see as many as 4.8 million Android phones go online every month," Electronista reports. "Various hardware builders like HTC and Motorola were moving just 60,000 per day as recently as February."

I accepted the numbers, I provided a supporting reference to them and then built my argument on them.

The argument that's not addressed.

:D Maybe we will finally stop seeing "im switching to an iphone because of Apples great product and quality control" threads now that its actually out.

Guess you have to buy a rubber iglove or a rubber apple case to get any signal while holding it. lol

I am talking about previous versions, I haven't had the chance to use the iPhone 4. Many of my friends have iPhones, and they work. Just do. I am not a fanboy, and I will never get an iPhone, but I appreciate Apple for making the product. Without it I think we would be where we were 2 years ago as far as smartphones go.

Android is great. I am here because I support android and the Evo. I am a bit of a geek and like a device I can tinker with (Android) and not something that tells me what I can do (Apple).

Nothing against apple but even if the iphone didn't emerge some other device would have ,they might have raised the bar but android also cause them to step up their game as well but i really don't see the excitement with iphone4 that whole squares all over the screen is tired an old no matter how much you raise the resolution and the so call new features is nothing new if you own an android.

I'd like them to be as satisfied as I am, but what they choose is really their business.

In days past, we had this strange notion that we could best get along by agreeing to disagree and to show respect before demanding it as an entitlement.

We identified ourselves by who we were and what we made of ourselves - not by our possessions, and certainly not by in-grouping and out-grouping over possessions until all common sense and courtesy were left by the wayside.

People that behaved differently than that we used to call uncouth snobs.

Today, I guess I just call them fanbois.

I think I'd like to point out that just because someone has a favorite phone, I don't think that that makes them a fanboi. I also think that making fun of someone over the choice of a possession makes the caller a fanboi.

But then, I could be wrong. I'm often wrong.
 
Personally I don't care who has what phone or what phone/OS is on top, because I am not a fanboy. As long as there is enough interest in what I like for it to be a thriving product I'm satisfied.

HTC EVO FTW!!!!

I like this idea... I like the regurgitation of iJobs marketing because they fail to actually come up with their own.

But we need them.
And I saw one regurgitate this 'fragmentation' argument in this thread.
Apple has fragmentation... as a matter of fact they had some MASSIVE fragmentation..
Apps for os x on power, os x on x86, their older os9 on power... etc.
They totally killed their developers with their architecture changing and os changing in a relative short time.

But we don't talk about that.... :rolleyes:

There is only one fragmentation comment in this thread, I made it.

I happen to be the guy with a fully rooted EVO, I've never owned nor wanted to own an iPhone.

Neither am I apologizing nor trying to win you over.

The point of my post was lost on you. I'll try it again:

* For prospective buyers, Android pro argument is innovation, the con side for newcomers is sorting out which phone to get or why they don't all look the same.(*)

* For prospective buyers, iPhone pro argument is maturation, the con side is the lock-in.

(*) Among people who can read, in the marketing world, that's called fragmentation - and it's solvable.

But thanks for reminding me that a closed mind is often accompanied by problems such as reading comprehension and that seems to usually lead to pompous rantings, such as your own.
