Root Why wont HTC Sync work with my rooted US Cellular Desire?

I have a rooted HTC Desire 2.1 US Cellular phone that I'm trying to update to 2.2. For some reason it won't sync with HTC Snyc but my wife's unrooted phone will. Why is this and how can I fix? Thank you in advance for your help.
 
Is it just rooted, or have you installed a custom ROM as well? You need to be running HTC's Sense software on your phone for HTC Sync to work.
