Help why wont the phone ring?

I have just been waiting for an important call back with my phone sat in front of me (not on silent)
I got a audible notification alert and when I looked at the phone the notification was for a voicemail message as I had a missed call.
The phone never rang?
Listened to the message etc and after I hung up I rang my phone from my landline and it rang ok

Does anybody know why this would happen.

The phone appears to ring when it feels like.

The phone was not in use when this happened, just sat on the table.

Alright!

My wife had a similar problem with her old phone (one of the Nokia Express Music phones) and she has had the same thing happen once or twice with her new phone (Samsung Galaxy S).

I have actually had it happen on my DHD once, but then we are both on Orange UK and their signal where we live is utter rubbish!

What network are you on? What flavour android?
 
Could just be that your network signal had dropped at the point the call was being made.

It does happen on all phones from time to time.

I am on Orange and come to think of it, it would seem that the most likely answer would have been no signal when the incoming call was made.

I find the Orange signal drops a lot where I live, never stabalised.
And when I ring them to complain they have given me the same answer for years.
after asking for my postcode they always say...."ah there's the problem there is a mast being repaired in your area"

well they have been repairing it now for about 10 years.

lol - 10 years... they're rubbish!!!
 
Were you using a data connection at the time?

I believe that most mobile providers have a system where if the data connection is being used, the network will re-direct calls to your voicemail.

I think I read somewhere that Vodafone don't do this and the data connection will be dropped in the event of a call to allow it to be made.

When I had an iphone I used to miss a lot of calls (O2) because I was on the web.

Or is this a myth?

Interesting, although I think I was only listening to music. Good to know all the same - I'll bear that in mind
 
Is there any chance the caller dialled directly into your voicemail?

I guess that it's possible to do that, although I would have thought that you'd need a pass code to do that. The couple of time it's happened to me has been calls from my wife, who is not technical enough to have done something like that. Hasn't really been an issue to me though.. only happened a couple of times. I thought it was just down to Orange's network where I live!

Nope .. you don't need a password at all. In Ireland you just put "5" after the 086 or 087 so 086 123456 becomes 086 5 123456 etc.

In UK on Orange you need the long version of the voicemail box i.e the one you would use from abroad. I can't remember it off the top of my head but it's +447.........123; once you dial that it gives you a variety of options including "leave a message for another orange user". Then you just input their phone number and you go straight to their voicemail.
 
I get this all the time since I moved to Orange. Cant wait for my contract to end, I will never go to Orange again. They are abysmal.
