Why you don't need a task manager on Android...

I stay away from apps that don't have enough installs to garner any decent reviews.
Most of the new apps are just kids that have copied a shell of a similar app and thrown in a couple lines of code.
Back in school, my English teacher used a hard wooden ruler on the hands of kids who tried to turn in thesis's that were obvious copies of some kid in last year's class.

Install count doesn't equate to high quality. just look at the dozens of Task Killers, and Facebook. Oh, apps such as DU battey Saver, Facebook, Advanced Task Killer have tons of rave reviews, but as Sgt. Schultz would say, they know NOTHING! NOTHING!!!

I still highly recommend Greenify and boot manager. I wouldn't call them task managers but these two apps help the android system. Greenify keeps the apps you dont want running like facebook, etc thats always taking up memory and boot manager is a system start up tool. Task managers however do more harm than good but greenify and boot mamanagers are a must

The only 'task manager' i need is the one bundled with TouchWiz that works as i feel it should--providing you aren't using Google anything ( i don't like Google apps and promptly disable them all, plus they don't seem compatible with Samsung's task manager, and remain open even after i close them, etc) which means if i want an app open, it stays open until i specifically decide to close it. if i close it, it is closed, PERIOD.

What bothers me so much about stock android is that it has a mind of its own--tends to load services i never use (Google apps running even without a Google account, various other apps running without any need to) and tends to feel that the app i want to keep open isn't important enough to keep open so it closes it down. i hate the broken feeling when i transition back to my gallery when i leave Chrome and see the broken animation (black screen, everything loading back up because Android shut it down despite plenty of RAM available) or i leave music and my launcher reloads and i wait for widgets and icons to repopulate, or i go back to Chrome and find all eight or so tabs reloading and losing my place where i was looking at on them all.

Android's OOM killer is the worst thing ever. it knows nothing of which apps I WANT and feels my way is always wrong. even with plenty of available RAM, it kills things i consider vital, such as browser tabs, launcher, apps i want to smoothly resume, the works. Which is what makes TW so much better for me, since, given exception to core system level functions (system UI, etc) the Samsung apps and their own take on the task manager allows me to have more control over what runs and does not run. I prefer to make my own decisions, not be nannied by Android to follow its own way.

I can be assured that the apps i choose to keep open 24/7 are open as long as i want, whether i use them or don't. I keep SMS, Kindle, Browser, Email and S-Memo open all the time, and no tabs reload, no apps get cached or closed due to inactivity, which means they transition smoothly, the launcher isn't killed by the system, and in the event i open something else (Samsung App Store, Amazon MP3, Gallery, Camera, the like) and i close them out, they are actually closed. the camera, gallery, app stores don't need to run all the time. and even in the rare event i use those, noting is killing my preferred apps which still remain open and running.

What bothers me most about the Android OOM killer is not just it's having a brain, but that it doesn't even allow me to use all the RAM in my device as i see fit. the mantra of Linux is 'unused RAM is wasted RAM' yet Android starts going on a killing spree soon as you get to like 80MB RAM available. that 80MB is literally wasted. the launcher doesn't use more than 30MB, the apps combined don't use enough to require Android killing the launcher or other apps open to free up a useless and unnecessary 150MB RAM. there's 80MB left! that's enough for six small apps. let me use ALL my RAM!

I answered you here -

You're very confused.

The OOM killer isn't unique to Android, Google did not invent it and TouchWiz does not have a better one in the form of a cartoon.

Please just use one thread or the other, it's impossible to chase from thread to thread to clear up your confusion, thanks. :)

If you want to go your own way, fine.

Do it. It's your phone. I personally don't care.

But I'm not going to do nothing while you make arguments based on misinformation that would encourage others to go down the wrong path.

You got your own way of doing things - great.

This thread is about why task killers suck.

Because they do. Out loud.

There's no middle ground on this, it's as well established as sunrise and sunset. :)
