Help Wi-Fi connectivity issues

I've noticed several instances now when I get up in the morning, and I have no WiFi connection on my Rezound. At first I thought it was my router, and so unplugging it and plugging it back in seems to work.

Today, I had out my old, retired, rooted OG Droid handy to test them both. The Droid had a connection but the rezound didn't. I shut off WiFi and my phone had great a data connection of 4G as always. About 15 minutes later I decided to turn WiFi back on and see if switching to the standard battery from the extended I had in made a difference, but when I went in the room with the desktop and router, it worked fine.

I don't know what to think. I even had a little notice on my notifications this morning saying that automatic backup failed, meaning that as I slept the data was cut off for a while.

My wife has the fruit phone and hasn't had any issues, so it could be my phone. Any ideas?

Have you checked all the Wi-Fi settings? It may be that some default is set to look at the Wi-Fi as a second choice and the default is to go directly to 4G. Since you have the two phones I would try a side by side network settings comparison. Based on the fact that this is only when the device is first powered on it seems like it could be a connection software issue.

If it's a hardware problem better take it to verizon and have them check it.

Oops, one more thing how about the WPS setting?

This is precisely the problem I've been having for a month or two. I do not have it set with wifi as some sort of secondary connection, either. It is not occurring when first powered on, just randomly from time to time. It happens with the wifi connection at my office and at my home, so I know it's the phone. What's the WPS setting?

The WPS setting is at menu>wireless & networks> Wi-Fi settings> Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).

One thing to keep in mind is that we are dealing with radios here. If your router is shielded from the phone due to any line of sight obstructions at a point in time it will drop the connection and search to reconnect to the next thing on its list usually 4G or 3G or what ever hits its connectivity threshold. As we move around this is a dynamic situation. This happens to me just by going into my garage at times.

Next we have the router which needs to recognize the device. This usually demands that we follow its setting needs.

Finally we have software settings that control how everything works. These can also need to be polished and synced. Also some apps interfere with other phone settings. This is particularly true when a given app has full connection permission. Believe it or not most times it is not the phone hardware that is the issue but some other conflict.

Forgive the apparent lecture I was just trying to help by putting a perspective on all this because in both cases the phone was making a stable connection that lasted until some apparently external condition changed.

One reason apple appears to have less issues is that they maintain control over all the apps and the hardware where as we can download and use almost anything, non of which is necessarily coordinated.

I'm having the same problem and it just started about a week ago. I have to turn wifi off and back on to get it to work. I can't imagine what has changed as there haven't been any software updates, at least that I'm not aware of.

I don't want to beat a dead horse and I may be wrong (it won't be the first time) but I bet it is a software issue with another app. Remember there are some apps that you may have set for auto update.

Check through all your installed apps. See if any are auto update. See when they were last updated and if this was around the time the issue began.

I have all my apps set to manual update and you would be surprised how often they do update. Some times the app adds new permissions that affect connectivity settings.

Thanks Zazan. That sounds like good advice. I hadn't thought of checking installed apps.

I was having issues with getting wifi to activate along with getting wifi tether to work. seems that a battery pull fixes my issues. a reboot didn't fix it but a battery pull did. perhaps a program had control over the wifi and didn't get properly released.

I've checked everything possible, and I can't find any reason why this keeps occurring. Thanks for the advice, though, everybody!

I still find that I must turn off the wifi and then turn it back on to get it to connect properly. A battery pull also temporarily solves the problem, but I just don't know what else to do in order to find a permanent solution. It's beyond frustrating, quite frankly.

I can't complain about any other problems, really. The other issues I've had were solved easily, but I'm seriously considering selling this phone and getting something else. Or going back to my DInc.
