Help Wi-Fi Hotspot on Orange working

Thanks for this - sorted the problem out for me, although I had to change the APN type from "duc" to "default" as well as making changes to APN, Username, password and authentication type as explained above.

Took 5 mins here to sort something that two 30 minute calls to Orange tech support couldn't. John

found this on another part of the andriod forum, tried and it works a dream.

* note this only works for branded Desires on Orange.

Menu/settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile networks/Access Point Names

You should see the following three APNs;

Orange Internet
Consumer Broadband
Orange MMS

Select Consumer Broadband

CHANGE the APN from consumerbroadband to orangeinternet

CHANGE the Username from <Not> to Orange

CHANGE the password from <Not> to Multimedia

Make sure you use the capital first letters exactly as I've typed them there.

Authentication type should be set to CHAP.

Press your Menu button, tap "Save"

after this both wifi hotspot and usb tethering should work.

Orange tech guys know the way but would not advise to general public as they can charge for this service. They would rather keep it a secret...

Just had this problem. Only needed to delete the "Consumer Broadband" APN as it shouldn't have been on in the first place and seemed to be conflicting with the "Orange Internet" APN.

Just tried the settings on my HTC Wildfire S and it is working now. Am on Gingerbread 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 2.1

Thanks a bunch.

I've changed that apn and connected my iPad to the internet through my phone just to test I could do it (iPad doesn't have 3g and wanted to use it out and about through my htc desire). Does changing those settings and connecting that way cost any extra money at all? I don't want a nasty surprise.

Thank you sooo much....after going to 2.3.3 on my HTC Desire the HotSpot stopped working. Setting APN back to Orange etc. and all is well. iPad works again outside the house :-)

Worked perfectly first time. Thanks so much for posting this. :D

Worked on my HTC One X by creating a new APN as above, thank you! This is the second HTC phone I have had from Orange that has the Wifi hotspot feature disabled by default ?
