Help Wi-Fi problem?

Hi, All,

I have my Desire a week now, and am very happy with it.

I have been having trouble with the Wi-Fi and 3G connections, though. I'm beginning to think that, while the Wi-Fi connects (it acquires an IP address), it doesn't always manage to transfer data.

I noticed this when attempting to download from the Market. When 3G and Wi-Fi are both enabled, it seems to cause confusion. The surest way to get my content is to disable Wi-Fi (this is in my house, where I cannot get more than a few metres from my wireless router).

At present, I have Mobile Internet turned off, and Wi-Fi turned on. I'm attempting to download an app from the Market, and it says "download paused" (it was able to retrieve a list of apps without difficulty).

I have now turned off Wi-Fi and turned on 3G, and the app downloads in seconds.

The same behaviour has been observed in speech-to-text services, news feed updates, Facebook, Gmail, and other apps that require a network connection.

Has anyone else experienced same?

No, my Desire works fine on WiFi networks.
To check if the problem is you router, I'd suggest to try Wifi on another Wifi hotspot.

If you can't get far from the router, it may be that you are getting inference from a nearby wifi signal on the same channel. Download Wifi Analyzer from the market up see if there's a problem and maybe switch channels on your router.

Ah, when I said I couldn't get more than a few metres from my router, I meant that my house isn't very big, so distance from the router is unlikely to be a problem :D

I don't believe there are any other routers within range of me at the moment, but I will check again. I'll download WiFi Analyzer, as suggested, and see what it reveals.

I have WiFi turned on most of the time, and am connected to a WiFi network most of the time, but I found out today that I've been downloading large amounts of data over 3G.
