Help Wi-Fi stalls

Dear HTC staff,

I recently made the bold shift from iPhone to HTC Desire, after three years as a satisfied iPhone user. However, I cannot say that I am very happy with my new phone.

My biggest problem is the Internet. Using the Internet is my primary activity on my smartphone, so I am very disappointed that this is the biggest flaw of my HTC Desire.

Problem:

Phone connects to my WLAN easily and I can surf for a while without a problem. Then, after a minute or so, everything stalls. The connection is still established, but no data is moving. The same happens if I come back from the sleep

Sorry, just copy-pasted the msg I sent to HTC, in hope of finding answers here. Anyhow, got this reply from HTC:

What we would recommend is to try the following;
-From the 'Home' screen press the 'Menu'
- Tap 'Settings'
- Press 'Applications'
- Select 'Manage Applications'
- Choose 'Internet'
- Select to 'Clear Data' and the 'Force Stop'
- Soft reset the device by removing the battery while the device is still turned on.

So basically I have to remove the battery every time I wake the phone up from sleep. Talk about user experience. Gosh I miss my iPhone...

I don't think they were suggesting that, be serious :)

Does the same thing happen if you're using mobile data i.e. WiFi turned off?

Mate, this does not happen when I'm on mobile data. Only happens with Wifi. I seriously think that this is what they were suggesting, because nothing else helps. It's pretty sad. I think it's an issue with the way my airport express and my HTC Desire communicate, because I don't have similar problems in other WLANs.

Does your Airport have the dreaded Apple-I-Don't-Know-How-To-Do-Real-DHCP bug?

That's what this sounds like. A client lease is being provided for another device on your network, or your Airport is dropping it's MAC table.

Does not sounds like a phone issue. The reason why a battery-out will fix this is because when it comes back online, it sends out the first-time wifi beacon.

Try getting a new access point, and try it. I think your issue lies with your Airport Express.

I agree it's an issue with my airport express. But this happens even when there are not other devices on the network. I'm not sure what dropping an MAC-table means, but I am not using MAC address access control.

Feels very stupid to buy another router, because of one phone. Every single computer and smartphone that me or any of my friends has ever used in my WLAN has had no trouble with the airport express. I think I'll sell my HTC and get an iPhone, it's a much easier solution in the long term.
