Root Wi-Fi Tether (for Root) on Jelly Bean *Working Now*

jabstep12

Newbie
Ever since I get Jelly Bean on my Galaxy Reverb, I have been unsuccessful in using Wi-Fi Tether. (It worked fine on ICS). Anyone have any success with this app on Jelly Bean? Also, if you have, can you share your settings?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I finally got it working:

1. Download latest version of TrevE Mod Version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735

2. Here are the settings in the program that worked for me:

Device profile: S3
Setup method: Netd ndc master
Check "send netd max client cmd"
Check "wifi driver reload 2"
Everything else stayed the same

I hope this helps.

Download PdaNet+ from playstore, it uses the same full version key as foxfi and works without root or with root for jb, i checked...

Ok, I couldn't get PdaNet+ to work by itself. I had to install PdaNet tablet on my nexus 7 and I don't believe it's using WiFi, I think it set up a VPN between phone and tablet. Not real sure but it works thanks superboy4444!

Edit: just wanted to add this, I was ready to downgrade to ICS if I couldn't get this going

Edit2: OK this is what I did to get it to work. On phone: in the PdaNet app enable Bluetooth server. On tablet: enable Bluetooth and ask to connect using PdaNet tablet app. It will setup a VPN and work. It's a little slower so I assume it's Bluetooth limits. Read somewhere that the max Bluetooth tether speed was 2m/sec. Mine is at about 756k, which is OK for surfing when traveling.

superboy4444, I have had no luck with PdaNet+. Are you using the full version? I don't want to purchase the full version without first getting the free version to work. Were there any special settings you did with the program? My laptop sees the connection, but it always times out and never connects to the internet.

Also, are you speaking of the Bluetooth and/or USB working with pdanet? Or specifically of the WiFi?

Thanks for the help.

All three with full version

1. Download latest version of TrevE Mod Version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
There doesn't seem to be a link to the apk. Did you find it somewhere else? TIA - sheureka

Well I'm still looking - the only downloadable apk's I see in that thread are from last year, with discussions of problems on every version. The latest version has no link.

So can someone just tell me which version they're using?

Just noticed your edit and tried trevE mod tether with success! My settings are different but it works. Great find. The pdanet+ works using Bluetooth server but some of my apps that require an internet connection won't start but some do. However with TrevE mod I've got full wifi access. Great find!

All three with full version

Question for superboy4444,

Did you have to do anything different to get FoxFi/PDAnet working on Jelly Bean?

Previously, I had been using the FULL PAID vers of FoxFi on my Reverb while running IceCreamSandwich and it worked great.

Now that it's been upgraded to Jelly Bean, not working.
I did try PDANet Tablet also but that didn't work either.

Can you please explain, how did you get FoxFi/PDANet working?
Rob

Not pdanet tablet...you need to download pdanet+

Try this one:

WifiTether_TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2.apk | by TrevE for Galaxy S 3_VZW

WifiTether_TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2.apk

I installed it, and it seems to be working fine in spite of an error message -

Enabling MSS Clamping...
Failed

Everything is working so I'm just ignoring it. And thanks to everyone for the help.

Does not work with the Reverb's Jelly Bean for whatever reason. I paid for my foxfi key and had the latest version of PDanet+/Foxfi and the jb update broke it. I was using a similar app that the OP has here but it was a pain. I was just missing one of the settings. Thank you this really simplifies things for me (again).
