Help Wi-Fi turns on by itself

shmn

Android Enthusiast
I turn wi-fi off when I won't be using it for a while to help conserve some battery. Mainly when I'm out in the field working or driving for a distance.

But I noticed that it turns itself on automatically. It seems like whenever I plug in or unplug a charger it seems to trigger the wi-fi back on.

Anyone else see this? Is there a way to turn it off so it stays off until I turn it back on.

I've tried to turn it off under the "Settings" menu and also using that "pull-down" taskbar quick-settings icon menu.

Settings >mobile networks >connection optimizer>uncheck

That's sprint trying to unload your data onto WiFi

I can't find "connection optimizer". But I did find Settings > Wi-Fi > Smart Mode and turned it off. It sounds like it's about the same thing. And it seems to have done the trick.

Sneaky way for Sprint to compensate for a sub-standard network.

As pointed out several times in these forums my S4's WiFi has a mind of its own. In other words, among others, I also have this problem with my WiFi (AT&T).

(These WiFi threads should all be combined.)

This could very well be sprint related, and unrelated to the problems you are experiencing

The sprint connections optimizer will automatically connect and turn on WiFi when you are in range of known connections
