Help Wi-Fi Usage

bigfoot

Newbie
Hi,

My new SII has a strange problem, it keeps downloading data when connected to the wi-fi.

I have tried going through the apps and stopping all those that I think that could constantly download.

I even checked the email app as I heard this could be an issue.

OS is ICS 4.0.3

Anyone else having the same problem.

i'm not as expert as others here but have you checked the data usage list:

left key, settings, data usage, if you scroll down it should tell what app is using what.

Hi Bigfoot,

Preamble (I talk a lot, skip down if you don't want background info): Android has a lot of software running in the background checking for updates, syncing emails/calendar/etc, and some widgets on the home screen will download info, such as weather or youtube widgets. Most smartphones will do this with default settings (I am talking about a couple of MB here and there, if you have lots being downloaded there could be something else going on).

The data usage screen in ICS Alex01 suggested is very useful for seeing how much data is being used and by what.

Useful (hopefully) info: A few things that you can do with the data management screen:
- Pressing the left menu button gives you a short menu, the second option should help your problem, it restricts apps from downloading information unless they are running in the foreground.
- The bottom option enables a second screen with WiFi information as opposed to mobile data.
- Also mobile data can be turned off completely and warnings and limits for usage can be set.
