Wi-Fi won't connect

Got my MT yesterday from the big brown truck. I put the battery in and turned it on and after about 5 minutes it went black and I could not get it back on. Took it to Best Buy and the Mobil guy there finally got it going again and it hasn't quit yet as of this morning. The problem is that I was trying to connect to my router with no luck. The router won't recognize it. The phone shows the router and I put in the router key # several times with no luck. I have not activated the phone with VM yet but that should not keep it from connecting to Wi-Fi. My O V hooked up with no problem and works fine on WiFi. Also the GPS won't work but I think that is because I haven't avtivated it yet.

Anyone have any ideas on the WiFi problem??

Try deleting the access point from your list, and then scan and allow it to be re-added, and connect. I say this because the first time I tried connecting to my router, it didn't work. But deleting and re-scanning, I was successful.

Are you positive you remember the correct credentials for the encrytion being used on your router?

Power cycle the router. I have to do that occasionally for my wifi devices.

When I first got my iPhone I had to do a factory reset on the router before it would connect. It was at many other places, just not home.

I have done all that. I reset the phone to factory setting, unplugged the router, put in the WEP encryption Key code several times and it still won't go. I use Network Magic on the router to manage the network with and have had no problems with other devices including the OV. The MT shows it is connecting then shows it is disconnecting. It also shows looking for IP address also. The router never finds the phone when I try and add a device on the Network Magic setup page. I'm going to try and call VM or Network Magic to see if they have any ideas.

Well, it's not the Phone. I went to a wifi spot today and the phone picked up the signal and worked flawless. So it is in my router not recognizing the phone. Network Magic has been abandoned by Cisco as far as I can tell. NM website was a waste of time as on the fourm the members have posted that Cisco left NM hanging and not supporting it any more. Quess I will have to find another router system.

Mine seems to have problems connecting sometimes after coming back from standby mode (or just having the screen off?) Anytime I power down the phone and turn it back on it connects just fine. I've had the same problem with both my home and work wi-fi. Once it has that issue, it just says "Error" under wi-fi and nothing but rebooting seems to make a difference.

My wi-fi will actually just drop right in the middle of web browsing, did it twice to me this morning inside of 15 minutes. The first time I was able to solve it by turning Airplane mode on and back off, when it happened the second time, I just turned wi-fi off and used the 3G to finish up.

I noticed the same thing on mine. Basically what was happening was that when the phone goes on standby, it was turning off the wifi and going back to 3g--this was the default setting in the Wi-Fi sleep policy on the phone.

I changed it to Never and now don't have a problem when going into standby.

to change that, go into
1. Settings --> Wireless & networks --> Wi-Fi settings
2. Hit Menu --> Advanced
3. Wi-Fi sleep policy is at the top of the Advanced menu.

Yeah, my wi-fi is acting crazy too. This was one of my problems, so I went to check the setting as you mentioned and found that mine was already set to never.

Needless to say I am thinking about exchanging the phone to see if the next one works better.

Ooh, thanks for that. Yeah, mine was set to turn off the wi-fi whenever the screen turned off. I changed it to 'never' like you suggested and we'll see. I'm sure my battery life will suffer (more), but that's ok if it stops the wi-fi problems. Better than having to power cycle the phone and have everyone within 50 feet of me hear a woman screaming "Virgin Mobile!!!"

Well I finally got the phone to connect to the router by turning off the firewall, connecting and then turning the firewall back on. The phone stayed on the network, but I don't know if I have to do this every time I want to connect to WiFi.
