Wicked Pissah! Local words and expressions...

US translation.

"Went out with my girlfriend and showed her the town. We had a lot of fun."

How'd I do?

Not bad... maybe a C- lets see if I can translate into American ;)

I went with my girlfriend to the Walmart to get some wicked food. I was really disappointed to find it was very busy, and it took ages to get through the checkout.

So that's what "gutted" meant. I had no idea.
Don't ask those crazy brits what a "fanny pack" is. It's waaaaay different than this:

I thought cigarettes were referred to as fags in the UK. The dictionary says a ****** is a bundle of sticks

Not trying to offend, but the blocked word is the same as on the box above

I don't know if you will be able to find this one on the net but another interesting slang word is "Nkalakatha"

Nkalakatha is the Zulu slang word for "Big shot" or "Boss" or "Top Dog" - it is a word used for someone who is highly regarded in a social circle and seen as a great leader.

At work all the Zulu and Xhosa guys they always call me "Nkalakatha" or TOP DOG! :D:D:D

lol you guys won't understand a single word of the super famous song "Top Dog!" or better said NKALAKATHA! :D

I prefer to be called Nkalakatha I like the sound of it much better :D

<------ scratching head....... I suppose it is like us calling a drinking fountain a "bubbler" when it doesn't, in fact, bubble at all. I was picturing a place where you store all the doors until they are needed

As someone that uses the proper term (bubbler) even I was confused by dooryard when first presented with it. :p

"I know, right?"

Is this a California thing, because everyone out here seems to say it , and it's not a phrase I recall ever hearing before I got here.

Also, I am guilty of starting a trend of Americans saying "No worries". Sorry, 'Strailia.

Please hold, your call is very important to us.
Iffin it was THAT important I wouldn't have to hold

Edit:
(Just realized I put this in the wrong thread. If a mod would be so kind as to move it to the "Most idiotic sayings" thread, I would be much obliged!)
