Help Wierd mobile internet problem

Okay, so my husband and I have the same phone. We're on the same network, same location (right now, anyway) and same settings (2.2). I have a mobile connection with no problems, but he does not. He can connect to the internet using my Desire as a hotspot (tried it this morning), but the minute I try to connect using the mobile network, nothing. It sits at "Trying to connect.." before changing to "Use phone for data connection when Wi-Fi is unavaliable". The box is checked for the mobile network. What is going on?

Have you checked the APN settings? Sometimes if you install a widget that can toggle apn on and off it will change your APN settings, I had that problem.

This problem started yesterday. We've had the phones for several months, and nothing has changed on the phones. I don't believe it is the SIM card. As for the APN settings, I cannot find on either phone where those settings are. I have looked at the manual, and the menu that it tells me to go to for the Desire does not exist on my phone.

Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Operators or APN

The Network Operators or Access Point Names menu does not exist on our phones. Where else would it be?

I should also mention that he has done a factory reset with no changes. Is this something I need to contact our provider about?

You seem to be in the right place. On my Desire, which is on t-mobile btw, under mobile network settings it has:
Data roaming
Data roaming sound
Access Point Names
Network Mode = WCDMA only
Network operators = T-mobile
Enable always-on mobile connection

click on Access Point Names, then press menu and add new APN. You then need to enter the APN information for your network provider which should be able to be found from a google search or their website.

Hope this helps.
